    Hello moth,

Congratulations on completing lesson 2! I will reviewing your submission today!

Your Arrows exercises really good. They flow through the page. One minor problem here is the repeating and wobbly lines. Lines should not be repeated even if they're wrong, as always, if there is a mistake it should be ignored. They also should be drawn with confidence. Always remember to draw from your shoulder.

Moving on to Organic Forms, good work here. Your ellipses are drawn confidently and also drawn through 2-3 times. The degrees of the ellipses are changing. The contours are hooked.

In the Texture Analysis exercise, it's better to approach the cast shadows like this, because they force you to think in shapes instead of lines https://i.imgur.com/M9JJfr4.png . But otherwise, you did great.

In the Dissections exercise, I feel like you could have done a better job making the textures wrap around the form. https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/e58b7887.jpg . I also think that you could have drawn the textures more implicitly.

Splendid work on the Form intersections exercise. I don't have much to say here since intersections are just an introduction in this exercise.

In theOrganic intersections, There are some minor hiccups here and there, but you did good job here.

Overall, I think you did a great job in this lesson. Remember to add this to your warm up for 10-15 minutes. Feel free to fmove on to Lesson 3. Good luck!!

    Hi johnnyhotpants,

Congratulations on completing the 250 box challenge! I will be reviewing your submission today.

Starting with your lines, Your line quality is quite good. You drew lines with confidence. Your line weight improved and got cleaner through out the whole challenge. Great job. However, you could be more mindful of your hatching. Some of your lines seem to have a slight arch.

Some of the lines of your boxes, such as 7, 17, 22, 23, seem to have diverging lines. Some of the lines in the first 50 or so boxes seem to be parallel. A box in 3 point perspective will ALWAYS have their lines converge. They can never diverge, or be parallel. It is possible for them to converge very slightly, but they have to converge, even if it's really hard to notice it the convergence has to be there. https://imgur.com/mWLlnYl

You did a good job in trying out different orientations of boxes but you can still refer this https://imgur.com/Kqg6uMX to understand different orientation of boxes in the future.

One issue that is pretty common on the challenge for almot everyone is inner corners. Its pretty common to have mistakes in your inner corners. A way to improve here is to think about the relationships between the lines themselves. Think about all the other lines in the set, compare the angels and make a guess based on them. You can refer https://i.imgur.com/8PqQLE0.png to understand more clearly.

You can also change the order in which you draw the inner corner. You can look at this image to understand it better

    https://imgur.com/a/DHlA3Jh .

Although you drew it the boxes in an A4 sheet paper, I think you could have drawn more bigger boxes to fully engage your shoulder. I also noticed that the correction lines at the inner corner of fthe box does not pass through the box. I think they should touch the inner lines too, since we are not here to create a pretty drawing.

Overall, I think you did a really good job in this challenge. Keep drawing these boxes as part of your 10-15 minute warmup. Feel free to move on to lesson 2. Good luck!

    Hey BowtieBuck!

Congratulations on completing on Lesson 2! I'll be critiquing your submission today. Lets get on with it!

The Arrows exercise can be really hard. Good work though. I see improvement in the second page. There are some mistakes that I would like to point out here. You have more than one line as line weight, you should avoid that. They should only be done with 1 line, no more so the line weight is not overdone. The arrows need to get bigger and bigger as they go towards the viewer. Both in size, and the spacing between each fold, as seen in this image https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/011d064f.jpg and this image https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/0f7c806c.jpg.

In your Organic forms, All your ellipses are neatly alligned to the minor axis. Your contour curves are hooked. Great job. I've noticed in the contour curves that sometimes the degrees of the curves remain constant as we move along the form. So try to make a conscious effort to change the degree of contour lines while sliding along the form.

The Texture Analysis exercise looks good. The only thing you have to look out for is the gradient. You can look at this image to understand more about it https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/7d1f3467.jpg.

In the Dissections exercise, you seem to have trouble with wrapping the texture around the form. https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/e58b7887.jpg. You had some trouble with the gradient too. But you did improve in the second page. Overall you did great in this exercise.

Form intersections is a difficult exercise. It takes practice to get them right. You did a great job in keeping your forms Coherant, cohesive and resembling that they share the same scene (shallow foreshortening). Here are some corrections http://imgur.com/a/PK9uIc3. You did greatly improve here. Great job.

The Organic intersections exercise was good. Here are some minor corrections I made. http://imgur.com/a/ekmzRvf.

I think you did a great job in this exercise. But unfortunately, I think you need to work a little more on your arrows. The revision is one page of arrows, just one page to get you to really understand whatyou should focus on while working on this exercise. You can refer this link https://drawabox.com/lesson/2/organicarrows to understand more about arrows. I hope you'll work on this. I'll be waiting for your response.

    Hi taigfenian!

I'll be critiquing your homework today. Let's get on with it.

Super imposed lines: Good job on making consistent and confident lines. There is no fraying at the beginning of your lines. Your lines seemed to have a slight arch but that improved through the other exercises. Although, you didn't need to do 3 pages of the exercise. You should only draw in the suggested amount of pages, no grinding

Ghosted lines: Some of your lines missed their mark but that is normal. It gets better with practice, just remember to add them to your warm up.

Ghosted planes: This looks good. Your lines seem to have improved.

Ellipses in tables: Some of the ellipses in the first page were wobbly but you have improved in the second page. The ellipses are kept within bounds. The ellipses are drawn through. Good job.

Ellipses in planes: This looks okay. The ellipses are drawn with confidence, prioritizing confidence and smoothness over accuracy.

Funnels: Good job, your ellipses are cut into symmetrical halves by your minor axis. Some of your ellipses look slightly wobbly, you can work on that during your warm ups.

Plotted perspective: Great job here. You have drawn through your boxes.

Rough perspective: You did a good job here. You must remember not to repeat lines. No matter how off a line is, you should never repeat it. You should keep it as it were correct and move on.

Rotated perspective: You don't worry much about your sense of perspective. You will learn more about perspective in the 250 box challenge.

Organic perspective: This exercise is very difficult, so don't be too hard on yourself. You'll learn more about how boxes sit in space in the 250 box challenge. Also, remember that draw a box isn't about making pretty drawings, so some ofour exercises will look pretty ugly.

Congratulations on completing lesson 1. I think you are ready to move on to the next challenge, the 250 box challenge. Keep coming back to these exercises as warm up for 10-15 minutes. Good luck!!

    Hi Scetileaf,

I'll be reviewing your homework today. Congratulations on completing Lesson 1!

Let's start with the Superimposed lines. There is little to no fraying in the beginning of your lines. Good work on prioritizing confidence over accuracy! Something I have noticed throughout your work is that your lines have a slight arch to it. This might be happening because you are not using your shoulder as pivot. This can also happen from the shoulder, in this case it can be fixed by tring to arch consciously in the opposite direction. The same goes for Ghosted lines. Your lines are confident and flow smoothly. The Ghosted planes exercise looks good. The only problem here is that some of your lines have a slight wobble, but it has cleared up in the second page.

Your ellipses in the Ellipses in planes exercise are good. They are drawn throughtwo or 3 times. They are confident ellipses. Some of your ellipses in Table of ellipses don't seem to touch each other. Strive to make your circles touch the top and bottom of the box, as well as the line to the left of it. You have improved in your 2nd page though. Good work on the Funnels exercise. The minor axis cuts the ellipses into 2 halves.

Your Plotted Perspective exercise looks very good. The Rough perspective is okay. The only thing to look out for here is your arching lines. Its normal to have mistakes in the Rotated boxes exercise. It gets better with time. Your Organic Perapective exercise looks okay. You will learn more about boxes in the 250 box challenge.

Once again, congratulations on completing Lesson 1. Good work! Remember to keep using these exercises for warm ups.

You can now move on to the 250 box challenge!

    Hi Chiran,

Thank you for the very detailed critique. I will be including arrows to my warm ups in the future. Here is my revision of 1 page of organic arrows. http://imgur.com/a/bXQlMyy. Once again, thank you.

Drawabox-Tested Fineliners (Pack of 10, $17.50 USD)

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
