Good job overall on Lesson 1!

Lines - You have some arching, this can be corrected by arching slightly in the opposite direction and drawing more from your shoulder.

Ellipses - It looks like some were drawn through more than 2 to 3 times. Aside from that, they look great. They fit snugly in the table and are confidently executed.

Boxes - Well done. The rotated boxes could have been rotated more, but this is a tricky exercise and you did good for a first attempt.

I would say you are ready to move onto the 250 Box Challenge.

    Great job on lesson 1!

Lines - These look great. Smooth, and confidently executed. There is a bit of fraying at the end of your superimposed lines but that is normal at the beginning and will improve with time! There is also some arching in a few lines, you can correct this by arching in the opposite direction and using your shoulder more.

Ellipses - These look well done. I would say to practice different sizes and vary the degrees - some more narrow, some wider.

Boxes - Overall not bad, your lines could be straighter but this is Lesson 1 and you will improve with practice. Keep ghosting and drawing from the shoulder! And not a bad first attempt with the rotated boxes, that one was super hard for me too.

Next up, the 250 Box Challenge. Good luck :)

Great job overall! Your lines are smooth, and confidently drawn. The only thing I would point out is that your ellipses are drawn through more than 2 to 3 times, but other than that, they are well done. Your boxes also look good, remember to always ghost your lines and don't re-draw any "imperfect" lines.

Good job on completing Lesson 1!

Lines - Overall well done. They look confidently executed. There is some fraying at the ends of the superimposed lines, but this is fine at this stage. There is also a bit of arching which can be corrected by using the shoulder more, and by arching in the opposite direction.

Ellipses - Good overall. Some ellipses were not drawn through 2 to 3 times, and there is some overlap in the tables and funnels.

Boxes - remember to use the ghosting method for every mark you make and draw from the shoulder to ensure you get a straight and confident line. For Lesson 1, I'd say this is fine for now, and you'll improve with practice. Overall you did great and understood the main points of the lesson.

    Next Steps:

250 Box Challenge next! Good luck :)

Good job on finishing Lesson 1!

Lines - Your superimposed lines look pretty confidenty executed. There is some fraying on the ends, which is ok at this point as that will improve with practice. There is also some arching in your lines, which can be caused by not using the shoulder to pivot. Try to arch in the opposite direction to counteract this.

Ellipses - Good job on drawing through them 2 to 3 times and keeping them within the bounds of the table. They are drawn confidently and touch the edges of each other. The funnels are also well done. The minor axis cuts the ellipses in symmetrical halves.

Boxes - Overall well done. Remember to use the ghosting method such as in the rough perspective exercise. This is fine for now, your lines will get better with practice and remembering to use the shoulder.

    Next Steps:

Next up, the 250 Box Challenge! Best of luck :)

Here is my revised rotated boxes exercise! Hopefully it is good enough to proceed :) https://imgur.com/a/LKt9kj7(https://)

Thank you for the critique!! I somehow didn't see it until now (a month later) and I've already submitted the 250 Box Challenge. I'll try to re-do the rotated boxes exercise before continuing to Lesson 2 :)

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
