Hello I’ll be handling the critique for your 250 box challenge.

-So starting with your linework, you are doing great, you are using the ghosting method to good effect and all of your lines are straight and confident which helps your boxes to look more solid and believable.

-It is nice to see that you have put the same thought and car when you added the hatching lines, this made your work look more tidy rather than rushed.

-It seems to me that you did not try to use lineweight, this may not be the case but I can’t really tell, anyways it is not a hard requirement but you could try to use it to reinforce the solidity of your boxes, just keep in mind that you only need to add one superimposed line as it is important to keep it subtle, if you overdo it you risk turning your drawing into mere graphic forms. It's a useful tool but one that most people need some mileage with before they feel comfortable applying it. Getting an early start will help you see better results sooner.

-It seems that you had some trouble with extending your lines in the wrong direction, but as you moved through the challenge you noticed it and corrected it, so well done.

-I think you could benefit from trying more orientations for your boxes, if you have trouble with visualizing or imagining them take a look at this image and use it as reference.

-Try to avoid any set of parallel or diverging lines, as shown here, due to perspective our lines will always converge even if it is just slightly. I can only see a few instances where you did this mistake but it is important to keep it in mind.

-Keep an eye out for lines diverging in pairs as shown here, you will get better at this with practice and eventually your lines will converge in sets

Overall while you did make a few mistakes your boxes are improving so far and with more mileage you'll continue to become more consistent.

Keep practicing previous exercises and boxes as warm ups, and good luck

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
