    Dear BECKERITO,

Thank you for your feedback. Due to personal issues it took me a while to get this finished, but I've tried to take more time for every individual box while keeping your tips in mind.

    Here are the new boxes,

    have a nice day,

    Mia

    Dear JACKSKOOSHY,

    Superimposed Lines

Your lines are nice and consistent whithout any fraying at the start. Don't worry about the fraying at the end this'll improve with practice.

    Ghosted Lines

I see small traces of archs on some of your lines. I know that at this point it will be tiring to consistently draw from your shoulder and though I'm still far removed from perfect, I've noticed that it does get easier. I think that you can proudly call your lines lvl 1, getting close to lvl 2.

    Ghosted Planes

Already a good improvement from just ghosted lines. Well done.

    Tables of Ellipses

Even if not super tight yet, they already look good in their shape.

    Ellipses in Planes

It's a lot to think about per ellipse, but yours aren't quite touching the sides in a lot of your planes. The shape is still good though.

    Funnels

A lot of your ellipses are misaligned with the minor axis. It might be due to the minor axis being off in certain funnels. While not technically part of the exercise, keep their positioning in mind when you draw them. The ellipses at the end diverge more from their boundaries than the inner ones. Try practice bigger ellipses more.

    Plotted Perspective

Your plotted perspective looks very neat. This shows you understand the theory.

    Rough Perspective

The lines you draw are decently straight. You plot your lines to the VP to get the line that should have been there instead of plotting the line you had to the horizon to get the line you drew. This makes it more difficult to see whether your issue is overshooting or undershooting.

    Rotated Boxes

These look very neat. The only complaint I have would be that the boxes along the axes converge to the same end point. This is barely the case in your other boxes, so it's a minor issue.

    Organic Perspective

This gave you a taste of free rotation and shows you how difficult it is to visualize all edges of a box when they are not actually there. Comparing it to Rotated Boxes it immediately becomes clear why it is important to visualize this. If you do the 250 box challenge you'll have to draw them through. This should give you plenty of practice getting that right.

I think you can safely move onto the 250 box challenge as that will give you the practice that you need right now. It might be a good idea to keep big ellipses in your practice exercises as well for now. Do that and you'll improve greatly.

Good luck, work hard and take plenty of breaks.

    Best,

    Mia

    Next Steps:

The 250 box challenge is tough and a lot of work, but worth it in the end. I suggest starting with that.

    Dear Jack,

Thank you for your feedback. The 250 box chalenge does seem the best next step and as you say that would give me ample opportunity to practice both boxes and straight lines.

I'll definitely include ghosting in my warm-ups.

    Thanks again,

    Mia.

    Dear SAM_GREY,

Firstly, I am still on lesson 1 myself so my advice should not be taken as dogma, but I'll try my best.

    Superimposed Lines

I see no wobbling or any fraying at the start. Good job.

    Ghosted Lines

No clear arching or wobbling. I would say these lines are level 2.

    Ghosted Planes

Your line quality is consistent. Well done.

    Tables of Ellipses

You followed the instructions very well and have a nice variety of degrees. If you keep up this technique they should improve with practice.

    Ellipses in Planes

Your ellipses are well executed. At least 3 sides tend to consistently touch the edge in the desired way. Well done.

    Funnels

Your funnels don't appear to be completely aligned to the minor axis. If you did not tray this already, draw the minor axis after you've drawn the curved lines. This should be easier than the other way around.

Some of your ellipses have poor spacing. Try to make all ellipses touch their previous neighbour.

    Plotted Perspective

    Excellent linework.

    Rough Perspective

Your lines are straight, but your depth lines end up far from your vanishing points. Have you tried ghosting all the way to your vanishing point before focusing on ghosting the line itself?

    Rotated Boxes

Your boxes nicely turn and are nice and snug together. Well done.

    Organic Perspective

The illusion is upheld rather well. Your linework looks good too.

Remember to take plenty of breaks,

    Mia

    Next Steps:

I would advise you to continue with the 250 box challenge and during warm-ups to pay extra attention to the Rough Perspective exercise.

    Dear MJAY,

Firstly, I am still on lesson 1 myself so my advice should not be taken as dogma, but I'll try my best.

    Superimposed Lines

Your lines start neatly in the same place and barely ever wobble, this shows you confidently draw your lines. Good job.

I did notice that your longer lines have a tendency to curve. I had the same issue and I'm confident that happened because I drew from my elbow rather than my shoulder. It may pay off to pay attention to that.

Also, don't be afraid to squeeze in extra practice in the gaps between some of the lines.

    Ghosted Lines

This exercise appears to be missing.

    Ghosted Planes

Your lines barely wobble or arch and touch both points. I consider these already level 2.

    Tables of Ellipses

A lot of your ellipses fail to touch the borders you set for them. I would advise to draw them bigger in the future even if that means they'll end up partially outside of the frame. It should be easier to draw an ellipses if you are not afraid of overshooting.

    Ellipses in Planes

Your ellipses tend to be malformed. Perhaps you are too focused on them touching all sides of the plane. What may help is trust in your ghosting and correct only minimally when actually drawing the line.

    Funnels

Again, the biggest issue is that your ellipses appear to be too small. Your ellipses don't always touch the previous ellipse, you may find that aiming for this gives you and additional reference point as to the placement of your ellipse.

Finally, you split this exercise over 2 pages and there is a lot of space left on both pages that could have been used to practice a bit more. There appear to be other scribbles instead of more practice. While seemingly innocuous this may distract you from the exercise to a greater extent that you meant it to.

    Plotted Perspective

I'm unsure which was the plotted perspective exercise as several pages include boxes whose depth lines continue into the horizon. Please stick to the layout as described in the exercises, that makes it easier for others to understand which part they're looking at.

    Rough Perspective

I'm unsure what to judge for this part as you appear to have done multiple exercises on the same page. I am unable to judge this exercise.

    Rotated Boxes

There are a number of boxes missing. This causes you to guess the position of other boxes more than you should need to. After you've drawn the initial 9 boxes you don't have to draw a box that doesn't already have 2 existing neighbours. Drawing those boxes first should make it so you don't have to guess as much.

    Organic Perspective

A lot of boxes have been drawn as the same size. This breaks the illusion you were trying to convey. Next time try to focus on that part.

Keep practicing and be sure to take plenty of breaks,

    Mia

    Next Steps:

I think it would be a good idea to retake this lesson. When you do please stick closely to the instructions, that makes it easier for others to judge your work. Good Luck.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

    Dear KR0M3S,

Firstly, I am still on lesson 1 myself so my advice should not be taken as dogma, but I'll try my best.

    Superimposed Lines

Some of your lines still contain the wobbling that might indicate hesitation. Do not be afraid to go fast and make mistakes, no-one would blame a beginner for that.

    Ghosted Lines

No wobbling or arching. The lines get very close to perfectly going from the first point to the second. You are almost at level 3. Very good.

    Ghosted Planes

The wobbling seems to be completely gone, that's already a huge improvement. Your lines seem to have reached level 3 by now. Amazing.

    Tables of Ellipses

Most of your ellipses are nice and tight. I'm amazed as I considered this the most challenging exercise. I would advise against the ellipses that are nearly horizontal in future as they appear to be drawn more freeform and separated from the borders. That makes it harder to judge whether they were meant to be that size.

    Ellipses in Planes

Your ellipses lie neatly within their frames. You're already very good at ellipses.

    Funnels

You work again looks good and there don't seem to be any errors that won't improve through practice.

    Plotted Perspective

    Very well executed.

    Rough Perspective

I think your biggest issue here is undershooting your vanishing point. I felt like it helped to ghost all the way to the vanishing point before drawing the actual line, it may help you as well.

    Rotated Boxes

Your lines are straight and your boxes rotate nicely. The boxes near the end seem to rely less on the existing lines next to them, this makes it appear as if they've turned to a lesser extend than they were meant to. Don't be afraid to make use of the existing lines.

    Organic Perspective

Good linework. The illusion looks realistic.

Congratulations with finishing lesson 1. Keep working hard and remember to take plenty of breaks.

    Good luck,

    Mia

    Next Steps:

If you continue with the 250 box challenge and use these exercises to warm up you should have these techniques mastered by the time you start lesson 2.

Please pay extra attention to the Rotated Boxes and Rough Perspective exercises during your warm-ups.

    Dear AN_DUH_SUN,

Firstly, I am still on lesson 1 myself so my advice should not be taken as dogma, but I'll try my best.

    Superimposed Lines

Your lines flow as they should, with no fraying at the start. Good work.

    Ghosted Lines

I see no wobbling or archs, just very neat lines. I would consider these lines to be level 2. Very good. If anything, you'll want to try longer lines, like at least half the length of the page to properly test if you draw from your shoulder on these lines.

    Ghosted Planes

Excellent work. You redo lines at times but the end result is stunning.

    Tables of Ellipses

The position of some of your ellipses seems to fall short of the borders and they aren't as tight as you may want yet, but I'm certain that those issues will be solved with practice.

    Ellipses in Planes

Your planes nicely touch all sides and are properly formed. You're already very good at ellipses.

    Funnels

Your ellipses seem to be mostly good. I didn't notice any errors that shouldn't improve with practice. You seem to have switched to a thicker pen at some point. This makes it harder to judge the quality of your work so please refrain from doing this in future. You also seem to have drawn a couple freehand ellipses. It is not possible for me to judge if they were drawn as intended.

    Plotted Perspective

Some lines fall short of the vanishing points, you may try rechecking where both ends of your ruler are one last time before drawing your line. Otherwise your boxes look very neat.

    Rough Perspective

It appears your biggest problem is undershooting your lines. It may help to ghost all the way to the vanishing point even if you wont draw that far.

    Rotated Boxes

This exercise is very neatly done. The lines are straight, the boxes are close together and correctly turn. Very well done.

    Organic Perspective

Nicely drawn. You've kept the illusion up rather well. At one point you've used another marker to go over your lines again. This makes it harder to judge the original lines. You may want to refrain from this in future.

Good luck, work hard and take plenty of breaks.

    Best,

    Mia

    Next Steps:

If you continue with the 250 box challenge as the site recommends and do your warm-ups before each drawing session I'm confident you will have had enough practice to properly start with lesson 2, by the time you finish the challenge.

You may also try experiment with longer lines to make sure you can draw those properly as well.

    Dear HNVY,

thank you for your review, you noticed several things I didn't myself. I'll try to pay extra attention to my ellipses in future.

I hope your practice is going well too. Remember to take breaks.

I wish you the very best,

    Mia
