Dear KR0M3S,
Firstly, I am still on lesson 1 myself so my advice should not be taken as dogma, but I'll try my best.
Superimposed Lines
Some of your lines still contain the wobbling that might indicate hesitation. Do not be afraid to go fast and make mistakes, no-one would blame a beginner for that.
Ghosted Lines
No wobbling or arching. The lines get very close to perfectly going from the first point to the second. You are almost at level 3. Very good.
Ghosted Planes
The wobbling seems to be completely gone, that's already a huge improvement. Your lines seem to have reached level 3 by now. Amazing.
Tables of Ellipses
Most of your ellipses are nice and tight. I'm amazed as I considered this the most challenging exercise. I would advise against the ellipses that are nearly horizontal in future as they appear to be drawn more freeform and separated from the borders. That makes it harder to judge whether they were meant to be that size.
Ellipses in Planes
Your ellipses lie neatly within their frames. You're already very good at ellipses.
Funnels
You work again looks good and there don't seem to be any errors that won't improve through practice.
Plotted Perspective
Very well executed.
Rough Perspective
I think your biggest issue here is undershooting your vanishing point. I felt like it helped to ghost all the way to the vanishing point before drawing the actual line, it may help you as well.
Rotated Boxes
Your lines are straight and your boxes rotate nicely. The boxes near the end seem to rely less on the existing lines next to them, this makes it appear as if they've turned to a lesser extend than they were meant to. Don't be afraid to make use of the existing lines.
Organic Perspective
Good linework. The illusion looks realistic.
Congratulations with finishing lesson 1. Keep working hard and remember to take plenty of breaks.
Good luck,
Mia
Next Steps:
If you continue with the 250 box challenge and use these exercises to warm up you should have these techniques mastered by the time you start lesson 2.
Please pay extra attention to the Rotated Boxes and Rough Perspective exercises during your warm-ups.
The Art of Blizzard Entertainment
While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.
The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
