Time to move on, then. Thanks again for the feedback!

Hello! Here are the corrections https://imgur.com/a/zIPWB7o

I tried to follow the guides you gave me (and I messed up with some boxes and cylinders, I'm aware of that), but in any case, tell me if there's something else I should be aware of. Thanks again!

Ok, so let's start with this critique:

    The good things

    • I see more accurate boxes directed to their respective vanishing points.

    • Line quality also improved

Overall in this part, it's accuaracy and quality respective to your first page. I know that this part is short, but if something is missing, it's simply because is correct!

Now, let's go with the big part of the critique, the things that could be improved/the mistakes.

    • I SAW YOU USED TIPPEX, AND THAT'S ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN. You have to accept the possible errors that you can make during the creation of boxes. Once it's done, it's done. No corrections. For example boxes 52, 55, 71, 73 and many more have some tippex used.

    • I think your pages could be cleaner on the presentation, so try to keep everything clean and ordered for your reviewer. It's easier to review a cleaner job than an absolute mess

    • Some boxes won't intersect in their respective vanishing points because their edges are parallel. Boxes 162, 164 and 65, for example, have this issue. Box 190 is an example of how you could make the edges intersect subtly

    • There are boxes where you extended your lines in the wrong direction (look at boxes 133, 134 and 135 for example). Even in the latest boxes this happens (box 247, for example). You have to extend directed to the vanising point, away from the viewer (check https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/149200bd.jpg)

    • I see you have troubles making the inner edge intersect in the vanishing point. I recommend you checking the method that ScyllaStew uses (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mteUPdCHn4s) with a little tweak; extend your ghosting line to the vanishing point. I recommend you doing this so you get an accurate inner edge that intersects in the right place.

    • You need to work on the line weight of the boxes (https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/980a575e.jpg)

    • Your boxes ended up being all tapered at the end. You could've made bigger boxes, instead of filling a page with too many little boxes.

I think that's most of the issues I've seen. Overall, it's a nice work, but many of these points are important, and you should be aware of them. So, I'll ask you to do some revisions before moving on

    Next Steps:

I want you to do 35 boxes taking into account all the points I told you earlier. Make bigger boxes, DON'T USE TIPPEX, extend your arm during the ghosting method to the vanishing point, extend the lines during the corrections to the correct vanishing points (directing your lines away from the viewer), work on your line weight, etc...

Once finished, come back and post your revisions.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hey! Seems like the photos are disordered (as well as the order of he boxes on the pages), so it's a bit hard to decipher what's happening on your homework. Could you upload your homework with the pages ordered? Then I'll correct it.

Thank you so much for your deep critique, Rivgar. I agree with you that some additional masses lack that volumetric feeling. Also, I'll keep an eye on the puzzle construction, heads and cast shadows on volumetric objects when I retake these exercises. Thanks again fro your critique!

Now your lines looks more confident and clean. However, I can see you added too much weight to your boxes in organic perspective. If you want to add line weight to these boxes, you need to be subtle. You'll need to know this for the 250 boxes challenge.

    Next Steps:

Move to the 250 boxes challenge, which will help you understand better how a box moves and works in perspective

Ok, I think there is enough variety of boxes now. Some notes before you go to the next lesson:

    • Check the foreshortening of your boxes. This can help you creating diverse effects on the view of your boxes

    • Practice your boxes. Don't forget about them forever, try to keep them in mind, so you can still improve on your perspective

And that's much of time. Time to make some constructions

P.S: I've messed up with the next lesson to move. GO TO LESSON 2, NOT 3!!!!

    Next Steps:

    Go to Lesson 3

You forgot to mark the line of the major axis in your funnels...

Remember to give a look to the lessons if you don't remember well that's the exercises about or how they are done. Also, keep practicing these exefcises in your warm ups.

    Next Steps:

Go for the 250 boxes challenge

Practice will help you deliver those smooth lines

First at all, welcome to DAB. I'm going to review your work, so let's start.

    Lines exercises

    -Superimposed lines

In your superimposed lines exercises, I see two things. First, there are frying ends (this is normal at first if you are not used to use your whole shoulder for drawing). Second, I see wobbly lines i the execution of your lines. Again, if you've never used your shoulder for drawing, it's normal to feel weird about your lines. Just take it easy and practice your lines using your shoulder.

    -Ghosted lines

I see that you make some arches in your lines. To fight this, try making an arch in the opposite direction to the one that appears in your lines. This way, your brain will try to correct this, and the line will be straighter . Also, there are wobbly lines. Are you using your shoulder? If so, don't worry, it takes time and practices to improve your lines!

    -Ghosted planes

Aside for some wobbly line, most of the lines seems well executed. However, the real issue comes with the from of your planes. They all look too similar. playing with their size and rotation would make them more interesting, and would obligate you to try making longer lines.

    Ellipses exercise

    Table of ellipses

Again, wobbly lines. Take your time with the ghosting method. We want confident lines, and that's our biggest interest at the moment. We'll work on accuracy later on.

    Ellipses in planes

    Same as earlier

    Funnels

You could have played with the sizes of your ellipses, making some thinner, some bigger, and so. Changing your curve will also help on this. Again, I see a lack of confidence on your execution.

    Perspective exercises

    Rough perspective

There are some wonky boxes, but you get close to the vp. I see that you could put some boxes farther from your vp. Also, to help you in your box execution, try to ghost your lines till the vp. This will help you being accurate.

    Rotated boxes

Well, this is a mess. Check this post to see my thoughts: https://imgur.com/a/FkDE4aL

    Organic perspective

The main issue here is with perspective (https://imgur.com/a/ngJKmZm). Box challenge will help you understanding better how perspective works.

    And that's it.

    Next Steps:

I think you need to work on your line confidence. Use your shoulder and try to get a confident line first, accuracy comes later. Your revisions:

    • Two pages of ghosted planes

    • A page of ellipses

    • A page of funnels

I would recommend you to redo too the rotated boxes, but that's totally optional, as you will work with boxes in the 250 boxes challenge. Come back when you have your revisions done.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Sakura Pigma Microns

Sakura Pigma Microns

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
