I think these look a lot better and cleaner. Your lines have been cleaned up a lot for all of your boxes! Sorry for the slow response! Good job! Have fun as you continue on to lesson 2 =]

Congrats on completing the 250 box challenge! It is indeed a challenge =]

I just want to say that i'm by no means an expert on any of this and I only just finished my 250 box challenge as well. So please take what i have with a grain of salt. =]

That being said, I want so say that I think your boxes look very very good. You do a great job of having your boxes in varying perspectives, sizes, shapes, and rotations. You also have examples of very drastic and not so drastic foreshortening. I can also see that you have worked to create a subtle silhouette with slightly darker line weight around the boxes which helps clarify the box and the direction, etc...Also, your cross hatching, although it sometimes falls short of reaching the other line, you always place your pen down on one end of the box and draw a line diagonally all the way to the other side. Based on the critics I got on mine, all the points they brought out, i feel you did a great job on. I don't see anywhere that you could really improve and so I'm going to mark you complete on this one. Great job!!

Congrats on getting all your boxes done! I know what a chore that is =]

I want to start by saying that they look very good. You do a good job with using a variety of different directions and convergences. You have your boxes in varying perspectives, sizes, shapes, and rotations. Overtime, you can see the convergences imporve quite a bit.

I also noticed that you applied the line weight to the silhouette. I don't know if that is what caused the problem or not, but I noticed that all of your boxes, some edges have more than one line for them. While your lines are confident, there should only be one of them. You should be able to press harder when making the one line to make the line weight heavier where applicable.

Also, on the cross hatching, there are quite a few boxes where the lines just float within in the box. They state in the lessons, that you should place your pen down on one end of the box and draw a line diagonally all the way to the other side. It's okay if you land short or overshoot, but make sure you at least start your pen on one side of the face.

Overall I think these look very good, but I am going to ask that you draw 25 more boxes and focus on not having double lines for any of the sides and work on the cross hatching.

    Next Steps:

Draw 25 more boxes, focusing on hatching, ghosting that includes line weight with one line instead of going over the line again to make it darker.

Thank you very much for the info. I reviewed all your references, looked at several examples of others homework examples, and gave it another go. I believe these all make use of much more drastic foreshortening then my prior boxes. Thank you again for the helpful information! Below is the link to the new 50 boxes.

Dude! your lines are 100% better! so much cleaner and straight!!! perfect! your ellipses are a lot better as well but I see that you still went around more then 2-3 times but...they look a lot better! good job on the rework! thanks for the feedback on the review :) I'm marking you complete this looks really good!!! I know this stuff takes a lot of time so thank you for taking the time to redo! shows your seriousness and dedication!

    Next Steps:

Since you have your 250 boxes done definitely submit them for review! I still haven't completed mine! they are taking me forever haha

So please take all of this with a grain of salt as I just completed lesson 1 myself =] So here are the things I noticed:

    Superimposed Lines

For these, for the first page its hard to tell what your lines look like cause you go over the ends of them with your wavy lines. On the second page, it looks like you do good with starting the lines out at one spot but the fraying seems to be a bit exagerated for some of them and the lines are very wobbly. I think some of this might be due to the fact you were only supposed to go over the initial line 8 times...some of these look like you went over them like 15+ times.

    Ghosted Lines

I think your ghosted lines look pretty good. Again I see some wobbles at the end of your longer lines. I had trouble with that too. THe longer the line the harder it was for me to keep it straight without a bow in it. I think this is where the tip of drawing from the shoulder comes into play.

    Ghosted Planes & Elipses

I think your ghosted lines and planes look very good and again confident. I don't see much as much wobbeling in your lones in these. They seem more configent. Only thing i would say is for your ellipses, they state to only go around 2-3 times for them. Some of them you went around quite a few times.

    Table of Ellipses

So this one, I think your second page looks better than you first. The first one looks like you were in a hurry and you didn't fill in the all the space like the exercise asked you too. On the first page the very right bottom section isn't even filled up with ellipses.

    Funnels

I think your funnels look good. Again, for the ellipses just go around 2-3 times to form the ellipses. Some of these go around a lot of times.

    Plotted & Rough Perspective

I think your plotted & rough perspectives look very nice and clean.

    Rotated Boxes

This one also looks good. Again the only thing i would mention is it looks like on the top the boxes all kind of swing to the left some instead of being more in alignment. Kind of skews the circular effect and makes it look more ovalish instead.

    Organic Perspective

I think these look really good. Only thing i would mention is exaggerating the concept of the larger in front and smaller as they travel back in distance. you're lines are nice and confident no wobbles.

    Keep up the good work!

    Next Steps:

I would like to see 1 more page of superimposed lines just the straight ones where you only go over the line 8 times and focus on the fraying. Try to make the lines more confident and less wobbly.

Also, 1 more page of the table of ellipses. Try to focus on filling the space and only going around the ellipses 2-3 times instead of several. Revisit the lesson where it mentions that all the ellipses should share the same direction as well.

So please take all of this with a grain of salt as I just completed lesson 1 myself =] So here are the things I noticed:

    Superimposed Lines

For these i think they look pretty good. They all start at a very definitive point which is what they wanted. The fraying is expected although it does seem a little bit more extreme than some that i've seen but all in all very good and confident looking lines.

    Ghosted Lines

I think these also look for the most part pretty good. They stated the point is to draw confident lines and not to focus a ton on if they don't go exaclty through both dots. I feel like your lines at the top are a bit more straight and as you start going to the bottom they do get a bit more wobbly looking. So might just practice that a little for some warmups before actually drawing.

    Ghosted Planes & Ellipses

I think these all look really good. For the ellipses you stuck to just going around 2-3 times for the ellipses. Those all look good.

    Table of Ellipses

So this one I had a lot of problems with! I think yours look a lot better than mine did. Your ellipses look confident and you are going around 2 times for each of them which is what the lesson states to do. Only suggestion I have is that the lesson states to fill the space. I notice in some of the frames you do not fill the space or that some of your ellipses do not touch the top and bottom (which again, sometimes that just happens when you are trying to draw them out so that may just be what happened there).

    Funnels

I think your funnels look good, for the most part they are again just 2-3 circles around and look like they cross minor axis well. Only thing i notice here is that they do not seem as confident as your other elipses on other pages. I had the same issue cause i was focusing SO much on getting the minor axis right.

    Plotted & Rough Perspective

I think your plotted & rough perspectives look very nice and clean.

    Rotated Boxes

This one also looks REALLY good. I think you did a good job of what they mentioned and using the boxes next to the one you are trying to use as a guide. The only thing i would mention is it is slightly hard to tell what is going on cause there is no shading or foreshadowing. You might make take some time to foreshadow some of the boxes so its clearer where the defined edges for that box are. Shadowing would help with this as well but again, I only state that cause it was hard to tell what edges belonged to what. But still a great job and its got nice curvature to it. Your boxes even line up accurately with the guide boxes that they have you draw! (Mine totally didn't =] )

    Organic Perspective

I think these look really good. You followed the concept of the larger in front and smaller as they travel back in distance. you're lines are nice and confident no wobbles. Only thing i might suggest, and I did this same thing! I have a problem with if i accidentally mess up a line i'll go back over it to try to straighten it. I see that on these pages for you as well. Just leave the mistakes, they are less noticable than "bolding' them so to speak =]

All in all i think it looks good! I think you are good to go! Keep up the good work!

    Next Steps:

Continue to the 250 box challenge! Have fun!

PureRef

PureRef

This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.

When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.

Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
