thanks a lot for the critique, rob! :)

yes, I'll try boxes with less dramatic foreshortening in my warm ups!

    hi there

yeah, of course. somewhere on the site it's recommended that you do 15min warmup everytime before you draw. so: continue with the box challenge and every day before you draw boxes you take one of the exercises of lesson 1 and practice for a bit. do not grind lesson one, you don't have to be perfect to continue!

    hi zero

i think you should advance to the next lesson, the 250 box challenge. and mayba if you want - do some more of the funnels exercice before you start. because that's the only page that look a bit unfilled to me from your homework.

all the other exercices you did pretty good!

the organic perspective exercise looks a bit less confident than your other lines! so take your time for every line when you go on.

    have fun :)

    Hi Quad

Your ghosted lines are a bit different from the other approaches. But you seem to have fun and that's what matters.

You did a really nice job on the rotated boxes challenge and this one is not easy to keep as round.

A bit more variation at the last organic perspectives would be nice but I guess you'll be have a lot of experiencing with boxes at the 250 Box Challenge.

    Have fun!

    Hey Lebobbe

Your lines in the rough perspective got a bit more wobbly than before where you concentrated on one line only.

Your rotated boxes look really nice!

And then in the plotted perspective at the end it looks a bit rushed, so I guess you will learn a lot by doing the 250 Box Challenge.

    Cheers!

    hi ducarte

your lines in the rough perspective got a bit more wobbly than before where you concentrated on one line only.

but i think you did a great job overall and can go on to the next step - the 250 box challenge.

take your time, there. I just was in 250 box challenge and it took me over a month to complete.

    good luck!

    hi wombutt

I think your straight lines are fine. they are not yet perfect but that's ok. we all need to practice.

with the plotted perspective your lines are getting a bit rounder, were you hurrying through or just did not ghost the lines enough? I guess this happens with a lot of people, me included ;)

mhm you got a bit of a mess in the rotated boxes, I looked at mine like at a inner and a outer ball, don't know if this makes sense.

your perspective boxes: they have very little variation. if you look at the example homework and pay attention to how he did the Y-s you can see a lot more variation in angles. and you may draw even bigger boxes and overlap them and go a bit crazy.

overall you did a good job and I think you don't have to do more perspective boxes because the 250 box challenge will give you the opportunity to dive a lot more into the subject :D cya there

uh you have 100! nice, i'm in my 70ies still (havent uploaded them for a few days)

hah! yes the opposite Y has to be over 90° you're right... :) but when i'm trying to construct the boxes i never looked at this, i just tried to get about two sides of the vanishing point right and the third was always off.. but i think i'm getting better now.

    hi david!

i think overall your line quality is really good :)

on the rough perspective exercise you rushed a bit through (like me! if you click on my critique for lesson 1 you will see). your boxes will get better a lot once you start the 250 boxes challenge...

    cya there!

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
