Overall, good work. You're clearly grasping the concepts of the lessons and your ellipses are really nice.

The only thing that's lacking (and it's kind of a big one) is your linework. Your lines are pretty consistently wobbly throughout your assignments, and around the Rough Perspective assignment you start getting into the dangerous habit of drawing over incorrect lines (a habit I'm guilty of myself, but one that's important to try to break).

I don't think it's quite so egregious that you can't move on, but I would recommend doing a page or two of ghosted planes and/or ghosted lines as a warmup each day before you start on your boxes. Confident, straight linework is going to be key.

    Nice job!

    Next Steps:

Move on to the 250 Box Challenge, but do more Ghosted Lines/Planes as your warmup.

    This looks really nice!

You actually have a similar habit to myself, wherein you seem to hesitate on your lines when you place your pen (possibly from spending a little too much time lining up your pen), causing them to wave slightly at the beginning of the line.

There are also a couple spots in the organic perspective exercise where you seem to have messed up a line and drawn it again, or undershot it and tried to extend it. I'm guilty of it myself, and it's a bad habit to get into. Try your best to avoid it as much as you can moving forward.

Additionally - and this isn't a critique so much as a recommendation - for future submissions it would be helpful to spend a minute framing your photos so they're evenly lit (no shadow) and rotating and/or cropping them to the correct orientation. I know imgur has a tool to do this. If you're not able to find a space to take these with brighter lighting, that's not a major issue; I just know it's a bit easier to give critique when the lines are clearly visible.

That aside, your lines are confident, your ellipses are even and round, and you seem to be getting a good handle on perspective. Onto 250 boxes!

Looks great! Your lines are very confident and I'm impressed by how accurate they are (especially the length - I'm not seeing much over or undershooting at all).

My only note would be that it's recommended you use a ruler when you add your hatching lines.

On to Lesson 2 with you!

    Great work!

Strong, confident linework and a clear improvement in your understanding of perspective as you progressed through the exercises.

Your lines do get uncharacteristically wobbly during the rough perspective exercise, but that's to be expected. Just pay attention to that during the 250 Box Challenge, since inaccurate lines compound, making subsequent lines even more inaccurate.

Overall, really good job! Get started on those 250 Boxes!

    Got it.

    Thanks again!

Wonderful, thank you so much for the thorough and thoughtful feedback!

I have just a couple clarifying questions:

    • When you mention needing to use a ruler on plotted perspective, you're specifically referring to the fact that I did the hatching free-hand, correct? That should be done with a ruler in the future?

    • In your last point, can you clarify what you mean by automatic reinforcing? I don't quite understand.

    Thanks again!

    Got it, thanks!

So since I've just been working through Lesson 01 over the course of this past week, should I just not be doing warmups each day? (Since there aren't any for the "pool" yet?) To me that seems counterintuitive.

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
