hello
i'll be handeling the critique for your 250 boxes challenge. congrats on finishing it.
-
starting off with some positive- you're propely using ghosting method which is good. and your hatching lines are mostly looking neat as well despite some wobbliness in few instances.
-
what you seem to have most trouble with is understanding the line extentions. you need to extend the lines away fron the viewer as explained here. this might not make a lot of sense as a beginner but if you extend your lines following the initial Y shape used for drawing the boxes it'd turn out correct each time. this part of the lesson explains it here. while, sometimes you got the extentions correct.
-
another recurring issue with your boxes is the lines are having divergences (moving away from each other) instead of convergences (heading towards the same vanishing point). check this part for reference.
-
one more thing to note is that most if the boxes have a similar orientation. it's a good habit to build to start experimenting with different orientations for your boxes as this will help develop your 3D perception and how things are placed in a 2D space.
-
what i'd also point out is that you have attempted very few boxes with shallow forshortening and most of them have quite dramatic foreshortening. a few are also in isometric perspective.
-
and lastly, adding line weight isn't a required part if this challenge but it's good to start at least making an attempt at it as this will be needed in the later lessons. check out this example for line weight in the context of a box.
so, i'd say you made a good attempt. however, before you're ready to move on to the next lesson i'd like to see you take your time with going over the text of the challenge once more and draw 10 more boxes. this time with correct extention lines and mostly having line convergences. do not worry about having the inner corners wrong or perfecting a box with line-weight and everything though, because those improvements will happen over time with further practice. (as boxes and previous lessons become part of the warmup).
best wishes!
Next Steps:
draw 10 boxes with extentions line away from the viewer. try to be mindful of the convergences too!
