Hello TRUNGCHIEN congrats on completing L2, here is my review:

Arrows

-Generally well executed though I will encourage you to be more experimental. Try compressing them more, or try less, try more exaggerated foreshortening, etc.

Organic Forms

• Next time try varying the openess of your contour curves more. You did a really good job of this with the contour ellipses but the contour curves don't vary all that much.

Texture

-Very well done with the texture studies, I especially like the pebbles.

-Well done with the dissections too, though there were sometimes where you could've broken the silhouette (like with the bricks and grounds cracks).

-In the dissections, you could also work to have more of a smoother transition form light to dark.

Form Intersections

-Not a lot to point out here however there are times when your cylinder's back ellipse is narrower than your front, when it should be the other way around.

Organic Form Intersection

-Once again, the contour curves don't vary all that much and sometimes flatten the forms.

-You could also stand to be more conscientious about the shadow shape the forms project, as they seem to stick to the form rather than be cast on the surface beneath them.

Conclusion:

I am marking the lesson as complete, good job. I will encourage you to keep practicing those contour curves and keep in mind the points listed above. Good luck on the next lesson.

Arrows:

-Well done, flow nicely

-I would suggest that you experiment with more exaggerated foreshortening by making the farther end smaller and the closer one bigger.

Organic Forms (ellipses):

-Visible line wobble, remember to draw smooth and confident lines and to not go over them in an attempt to clean them up

Organic Forms (contour curves):

-In a lot of these the contour curves are not round enough and end up flattening the object.

Texture

-Very well done, you really nailed it with the texture studies and the dissections.

Form intersections

-Well done, not much to point out

Organic Form Intersections

-Mostly well executed however there is a noticeable decrease in line quality.

Overall a solid submission, your textures are quite impressive. I will suggest that you do two more pages of organic forms with contour curves and incorporate them into your warm ups. Feel free to move on to the next lesson.

-Excellent job on these, you've done a successful job at conveying the shadow shapes and the gradient transition.

-Good on the dissections too, but there could be more of a gradient transition and the silhouette looks a bit too dark.

Form Intersections:

-I would advise against running your hatching parallel to your plane, just looks rather confusing

-Consider how the surface of one object will interact with the other. At times you ended up flattening forms like the cones on the third page.

Organic Intersections:

-At times the shadow shape doesn't follow the shape it is being cast on. On the first page look at the leftmost form.

Organic forms:

-Don't make it more difficult on yourself, these should be simple "C curved-like" shapes.

-Make sure you vary the openness of your ellipses as they turn away from the viewer, there is not much variation.

-When doing contour lines, draw them from your shoulder and, as mentioned before, vary their openness

-I suggest you overshoot your curves first before attempting to be accurate. It is more important that you get a feel for the three dimensionality of the form rather than emphasizing precision.

Arrows:

-I would advise against trying something like swooping your arrows , there are other things you should work on before attempting things like it.

-These arrows still feel like there are flowing through a page and not existing in a believable 3D space. See this. and compare it to yours. The way I approach the arrows exercise is I draw a swooping line that grows as it approaches the viewer, then I'll draw lines down coming from the edges (growing longer as they approach the viewer) and then I'll simply connect them. I suggest you try this and see how it goes.

-You could also be more conscientious about the gradient hatching. Think about how it'll get tighter as it reaches the curve.

Textures:

-Good intro to texture, especially the tortoise skin. (though next time i would suggest filling in the areas as it does appear somewhat scribbled.)

-Think about the shadows and the forms that are casting them.

-On the dissections, make sure there is less concentration of detail on the middles than on the edges.

Form Intersections:

-Try and consider the surfaces of these objects and be more deliberate about how they interact.

-Watch your line weight, there is visible shakiness and hesitation.

-Stay away from extreme foreshortening. There is a cylinder on page 3 at the bottom right that implies a sense of scale that is not consistent with the other forms.

-I would advise against adding contour lines to your cylinders and spheres as this will just continue to clutter your drawing and doesn't really add anything of value.

Organic Intersections:

-contour lines look much better here than they did at the beginning

-shadow shapes are arbitrary and don't follow the surface they are being cast on

You are starting to get the concepts you are meant to learn in this lesson, however in order to get the most out of it you should stick closer to the instructions.

-2 pages of arrows

-2 pages of form intersections

Hello Anbarbosa, congrats on completing the 250 Cylinder Challenge, here is my review:

First 150 Cylinders

-It is good that you decided to draw these cylinders at a large scale, as this gives you more room to explore the forms.

-I suggest that you employ hatching for clarification purposes, but this is optional

-Already good at representing and rotating these forms, even when foreshortened, but I would encourage you to experiment further and try to push the foreshortening to exaggerated proportions.

-Watch the the cylinders' openness is consistent, sometimes the closer end is more open than the farther end (see page 41/250, the leftmost) and sometimes the farther end will be much more open that it should be in relation to the scale (look at cylinder 125). It doesn't happen too often but watch out for it.

100 Cylinders

-I will once again suggest that you use hatching to clarify the forms, but it is optional

-Next time when checking your original lines with a ruler don't go over them, as this makes it harder to evaluate their quality

-You were also meant to extend ALL the lines of your box note how here there are 8 red lines, four checking the box and four checking the cylinder. Note how in yours you've forgotten to check one side of the box and there are only 4 red lines per box.

A good submission. You have demonstrated that you understand the material outlined in the lesson. Just extend the lines you are missing then feel free to move on to the next lesson.
