Awesome! You've made some definite improvement with your ellipses- just remember to do your best to align them to the minor axis. You've extended your lines back correctly as well.

Well done! I say you are ready to move on to the 250 Boxes challenge. Good luck c:

    Hey Pawsonsnow,

This looks like a great submission!

Remember to take your time positioning your pen at the start of your lines. Some of your superimposed lines have fraying at both ends which suggests you may need to take more time to plan before you start your line.

Your rough perspective exercises are very nice- as are your rotated boxes and organic perspective. Those exercises are particularly tricky so well done there. Don't be afraid to overlap your boxes when the need arises however.

Overall, I think you are definitely ready to move forward as you understood the intent behind all the lessons. Good luck for the future!

    Hi Spellfire,

I see that its been almost a month since you submitted this. For future submissions, I recommend uploading all of your images as an album, like you did with your 250 box challenge. This will make it much easier to view and hopefully that will help you get more critique! Also, your ellipses in planes exercise appears to be missing. Is it possible to upload this before moving on?

Overall, I think this is a good submission. I see that that you do struggle with wobbling lines and ellipses a bit. Remember, it is more important to be confident and make smooth lines than be accurate! Accuracy will come with time. Moving forward, just keep ghosting your lines and taking as much time as you need to prepare before making strong, confident movements.

You also didn't draw through some of your ellipses, but it's good to see that you improved as you went through the exercises. The same is true for the superimposed lines; they were quite curved at first but you seemed to recognize this and definitely improved, so well done there!

If you could upload the ellipses in planes exercise, that would be awesome. After that I would say you are ready to officially move on!

Hmm I can't see any attached files. Is it possible to upload to the original google drive folder? I'd be happy to critique c:

    Hi Pyromaniacs1,

You have a lot of good work here! Well done.

Your ghosted lines and superimposed line exercises are great, as are your planes. Accuracy will come with time so don't stress about that too much at this moment.

I see you have drawn lines back to the vanishing point instead of extending the existing lines in your rough perspective exercise. The intent is actually to draw over your depth lines with the red pen and continue those back until they reach the horizon line, instead of drawing a line directly from the closest corners and connecting them to the vp. By extending the existing lines it is easier to see how accurate your boxes were. If you have a different coloured pen (aside from red or black) you can extend those lines back before moving forward. That being said, many of your boxes are quite accurate already so good job there.

I am going to ask you to attempt the funnels exercise again because all of your ellipses are skewed (and are not aligned to the minor axis). Of course it isn't reasonable to expect every exercise to be completed perfectly but aligning ellipses to the minor axis is important later on, so I think grasping this concept now is a good idea. Don't stress too much about it; just try and make your ellipses perpendicular to the minor axis and not slanting to one side. Again, they do not have to be perfect! As long as you understand the intent of this exercise you will be ready to move forward.

I hope this helped. Good luck for future lessons!

    Next Steps:

(Optional) Extend existing lines back with coloured pen in Rough Perspective Exercise.

Attempt Funnels exercise again with a focus on aligning your ellipses to the minor axis.

    Hey Techartbg120,

Overall, I would say you have understood the intention of the exercises and are ready to move forward.

With your superimposed lines, remember to take your time positioning your pen at the start of your line. You have some fraying at the beginning of many lines which suggests you may have rushed this step a little.

It's good to see you drawing through your ellipses. Many of your ellipses in the "Ellipses in Planes" exercise didn't touch all four sides of the planes, but that is in no way crucial at this point and accuracy will come with time! Just remember to ghost your ellipses and take your time moving forward.

With your rough perspective exercise, you should extend your depth lines (the ones in blue) all the way to the horizon line and no further. The purpose of extending the lines is to see how close you were to the vanishing point, which sits on the horizon line. Extending them further doesn't have any benefit and can make it a bit more confusing for you!

You did a good job with your rotated boxes (which is a very difficult exercise, so well done!) and kept them nice and close together. Your organic perspective started off a little distorted but I can see you improved over the course of your two pages so good job there too!

Well done. I say you are ready for the 250 Boxes challenge.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
