Ok in the rough perspective you improve in my indication and in the ellipses section you can improve more but I'm not gonna make that 2 exercises stop you to go for the 250 challenge box.

Recommendation, stay practice ellipses in your warmups until they are smooth and more clean, and take the time you need in each box, each line to make the boxes look smooth and confidence.

Remember the 50% rule, enjoy this trip and good luck!!

Hi congrats for finish lesson 1!!

    Lines

First, Superimposed Lines there's no fraying in the begin point so nice; next Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes quite impressive lines, some of them wobble a little but its not something to worry.

    Ellipses:

In general in this part your lines look confidence and respect the bounds; the only recommendation here its to try reduce the number of times you through them to 2 instead of 3. Well done.

    Boxes:

In Plotted Perspective and Rough Perspective you get the idea of vanishing point, just in the second exercise your lines start to wobble more than in the line part. Finally Rotated Boxes and Organic Perspective its a nice job, nothing to point here.

Your lesson 1 it's amazing, and the points that I made it's something that practice will help you to surpass. Be aware of you mental, remember DaB can be hard and you should take breaks, no matter the time you get in a lesson. Good Luck!!

Hi, I'll give you the feedback of the part you submit but this incomplete if you need help meanwhile your doing lesson 1 please use discord.

    Lines:

So Superimposed Lines it's pretty well done except for one case where you have fray in both ends.

Next, Ghosted Lines your lines arch, thats mean your using your elbow and not your shoulder, a good idea to stop using it its to not give the elbow any point of contact with any surface, it'll be annoying but in this way you'll be sure you're using your shoulder.

And Ghosted Planes here you start to wobble that mean your not trusting in the ghosted line or you slow down when you see the other dot, I recommend to do ghosted line and be fast at this moment we don't care about accuracy I want to see smooth lines.

Recommendation, get A4 pages or a sketchbook but A4 it'll be helpful and take it easy, DaB its not a short sprint its a loooong race take a breath and complete the lesson 1. Good luck!! :)

    Next Steps:

I'll need the rest of the lesson 1. You're having a good lesson until now. See you later.

Hi, congrats for finishing lesson 1!!

    Lines:

So first Superimposed Lines your lines don't fray on the starting dot ant that its enough for this; next Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes I'm able to see little wobble lines and slightly arch in them but their are incredible precise but at this moment of DaB we prefer confidence than accuracy. They solution for the wobble ones it's to trust in the ghosted line and for the arch be aware your using your shoulder; in case your elbow have a some point of contact with any surface can makes you using it instead your shoulder.

    Ellipses:

Here only Ellipses on plane are good, in Table of Ellipses and Funnels your not confidence with your lines they wobble a lot and don't respect the bounds with the other ellipses.

    Boxes:

So onto Plotted Perspective and Rough Perspective, you get the idea if what a vanishing point is but in the second one the lines that don't go to the VP are suppose to be straight, parallel or perpendicular to the horizontal line. Next Rotated Boxes its good enough but you forget the corners nothing more to point here. And finally Organic Perspective the idea is good but not the execution, your lines start to wobble a lot.

    Next Steps:

    I'll need:

    • 1 filled pages of the Tables of Ellipses exercise

    • 1 filled page of the Funnels exercise

    • 1 filled pages of the Rough Perspective exercise

In the ellipse part I need smooth lines and respect the bound with the space near them.

And in boxes I wanna see straight lines, parallel and perpendicular with the horizon lines.

The wobble lines will be surpass with practice and I recommend Ghosted Planes or boxes with ghosted lines like a recurrent warmups.

Hi congrats for finnishing lesson 1!!

    Lines:

So first onto Superimposed Lines, I can see some line fraying in both ends and lines that are too away from the star point, be aware of where you start.

Next, Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Lines; in both your line hadn't seem to wobble so much, nice; and I don't see any kind of arch in them too, that's mean your using shoulder, like DaB should be done, good job.

    Ellipses:

In general they look pretty well and smooth, try to reduce the numbers of time you through them to 2 and in funnel some look they have been drawn in strange angle. But all the ellipses part its nice.

    Boxes:

And finally boxes, So first Rotated Boxes wonderful job, now the others Plotted Perspective and Rough Perspective you get the idea of a vanishing point but you begin to draw wobble lines and in Organic Perspective the boxes that look weird is because you don't know where to put the VP, it shows me a lack on perspective but that its suppose to be the thing you will be fighting in the 250 box challenge.

In general your lesson its pretty well done and the mistakes that I write about will be surpass with practice. Good luck!!

    Next Steps:

    250 box challenge

I recommend to do Rough Perspective like a recurrent exercise in your warmups

Hi, congrats for finishing lesson 1!!

    Lines:

First, in the Superimposed Lines I can notice fraying lines at the beginning in the first picture but its get better better in the second one, be aware where are you making with contact. For Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes there are pretty well done just the line slightly arch and the reason can be you are using your elbow, to get better in this case try to not make any point of contact with it, it will be annoying but you can be sure in this way you are using your shoulder.

    Ellipses:

In general they are making with confidence but sometime you don't respect the bounds and that ends with them overlapping.

    Boxes:

Onto Plotted Perspective and Rough Perspective you get the idea of what a vanishing point but in the second one your lines start to wobble. Next Rotated Boxes, they are perfect congrats!!!.

And finally Organic Perspective its nice your work but we're suppose to see through them even they are behind another box, like we have x-ray vision. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/18/example

(look at the example homework how you can see all the boxes even if another one is in the middle).

I recommend to do like warmups Table of ellipses or Ellipses in Plane for getting better with their limits and dont overlapping. And the mistakes I notice will be surpass with practice in the course of DaB.

This is a pretty nice lesson 1 and I feel you are ready to go for 250 challenge box. Good luck!! :)

Hi, great job on finishing Lesson 1!

    Lines:

So starting with Superimposed Lines its pretty nice, just in some case you have a slight fraying in the beginning but its something that will disappear with the time. Next Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes, the lines give the sensation that you beginning with confidence but at the moment you realize that line wouldn't connect with the point you doubt and makes you to slow down and generate wobble lines or slightly arch; my recommendation for the wobble ones its just trust the in the ghost line don't care so much about precision just be sure that the lines are smooth the rest come with practice, and the for the arch that means you're probably using your elbow if that it's the case just don't make any point of contact with it to be sure that you're using your shoulder. It will be uncomfortable the first times but its just new habit to form.

    Ellipses:

In this section I don't have to much to said, your ellipses can have a better form but in this lesson we're not looking that, on Table of Ellipses I can notice how you start respecting the space of each one, first get more confidance about your ellipses and then try to reduce the time you go through them to 2. On the funnels I feel the minor axis is slightly lower in some case.

    Boxes:

On Plotted Perspective and Rough Perspective you get the idea of the vanishing points, on Rotated Boxes they are nice but the corners of the top ones they are not really close and in the Organic Perspective you are able to differentiate the boxes and I feel that ist enough.

In conclusion, I feel this lesson is good enough to go for 250 box challenge because all the mistakes will be overcome with practice, I recommend you to do Ghosted Lines and Ghosted Planes like warmups with Ellipses in Planes, this 3 exercise are what I feel you need to keep going to get the smooth lines and the 250 box should give you the awareness about perspective.

Keep practicing and stay aware about how are you drawing.

    Good luck. :)

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"

It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not. The problem isn't that we don't have ideas - it's that the ideas we have are so vague, they feel like nothing at all. In this course, we're going to look at how we can explore, pursue, and develop those fuzzy notions into something more concrete.
