    Thank you so much!

Hi, I've finished the revisions you asked for! For organizational purposes I included the leaves page and ccollected the refs I used for the constructions.

One of the problems I ran into is keeping things in proportion even though I look at the reference often. I ghost to try and get a feel for it but things always end up out of proportion- if you have any tips for that I'd like to hear them, please.

It the links aren't working, please let me know.

Hi, I finally got around to doing the constructions! I forgot to ask but am I allowed to do leaf edges for the leaves? I'm on my second plant now and realized I added some before asking (there are no leaf edges on the first page). Thanks ^^

Given that there's a lot of pages to work through I figured it would be better to submit them by topic. This page is the leaves revision.

I must confess that the urge to scrap this page and redo it was really strong but that would count as grinding so I didn't ^^; This time I tried to tone down the amount of texture and detail so I could focus on construction for these leaves; hopefully they're at least a little better than last time. I feel like there's a lot of things that can be improved here but I won't get hung up about that considering there's more pages to work on the things your critique pointed out.

Thank you for the lengthy response! I'll get those pages to you soon. It's really insightful to have another set of eyes looking at my work. I'm glad to hear that my arrows are flowing through space as that exercise gave me a lot of trouble when I was going through lesson 2. Regarding cast shadows, is there an exercise I can make into a quick warm up?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to critique my box challenge! When I first submitted it I rushed through (because I was impatient & wanted to finish) and missed some core concepts the challenge was trying to teach me. The two pages you had me do was really eye opening and tells me I should do some more practice. Hoping these two are able to show better understanding of the challenge concepts. ^^ I've linked the pages below via imgur link but if that doesn't work let me know.

    2 pages of boxes

Thank you for taking the time to review my work! Regarding the intersections they were particularly tough for the reasons you listed above. It was hard to see how forms intersected but I've added some of that into my warmups and I understand it better now. (hoping that the imgur link works). I'm glad to hear that there will be more opportunities to improve on the arrows since I didn't really understand how to draw them like the homework intended. ^^

Thanks for submitting lesson 1! Here are a few things I've noticed.

    Lines

Your lines are confident- although I do see some arching for the longer lines. This is normal when starting to draw with our shoulder. Arching lines can be the result of using your elbow instead of your shoulder / you're still getting used to drawing with your shoulder.

In some of your boxes I see wobbly lines. This is usually a sign of wanting to be accurate. When we begin to prioritize accuracy we tend to slow down because we want to reach the end point. This results in the shaky line. I'd prefer if you let go of wanting to be accurate- this solves the shaky line problem. Having a confident, straight line is preferred over a shaky one as accuracy can always be improved later.

    Ellipses

One thing I want to touch on is that I'd like for you to fit more ellipses in planes for that assignment. You can get additional practice that way.

I see improvement from your first table of ellipses into your second one. If you are still struggling with fitting the ellipses together I suggest drawing through them a bit more while thinking about what you want your ellipses to end up as.

Regarding funnels, try to have your ellipses aligned to the minor axis. But this is a difficult exercise so don't worry about getting it in one go.

    Boxes

Rough perspective: You're on a good start but your boxes show uncertainty. In one point perspective, horizontal lines run parallel to the horizon and vertical lines run perpendicular to the horizon. If you're having trouble seeing it in your boxes I suggest taking a straight edge and comparing that to the horizon line.

Rotated boxes: I see rotation in your boxes, good job! Next time, be sure to hatch the spaces between each box to distinguish them better. I also see some repeated/redrawn lines so keep in mind that no matter how badly something turns out, you should move on (we do this to avoid grinding

If you had trouble with rotation, I advise you to take a straight edge and line it up with the bottom lines of your boxes. If the lines follow each other, there is no rotation.

Organic perspective: Your boxes show depth because of the way you varied up the size of your boxes. Only thing I would point out is the redrawn lines, which I've addressed above.

I've taken a look at the page you've submitted- regarding feedback on that you can refer to the lines and ellipses section of my critique.

I went ahead and marked the lesson as complete. ^^

Hi, welcome to the course! Thanks for submitting your homework. One thing I'd like to point out is the additional page of ellipses in planes in your submission- we may be very tempted to do another page when we feel like the quality of work isn't up to our standards but this falls into grinding.

    Lines

Don't redo your lines, no matter how bad it turns out! When we allow ourselves to redraw we end up grinding and second guessing ourselves. It's better to be done with it and try to get it right on the next attempt rather than stalling and redoing.

I also see some wobbly lines- one way we can improve our confidence is via the ghosting method . Our lines end up wobbly because we're slowing down in an attempt to "get it right" and prioritizing it over straightness. I'd rather you make smooth lines and miss the mark instead of meeting the end point with a shaky line as accuracy will improve over time.

    Ellipses

Some of your ellipses are shaking / looking "scratchy" - refer back to the lines section of this critique as the advice there applies here. Drawing through your ellipses a few more times will get you more familiar with ellipses.

Your funnels is very good- nice job! That exercise is particularly difficult.

Regarding table of ellipses- you're having difficulty keeping ellipses from crossing over into each other. That can always be improved on. When you warm up before doing DAB I'd suggest doing a page of table of ellipses, I personally do this and see a lot of improvement ^^

    Boxes

Plotted perspective: Nothing much to say here, nice job on the hatching though!

Regarding rough perspective we want to be careful as there are three rules one point perspective follows. I'm mentioning it because it seems like you're having difficulty with the back portion of your boxes.

Rotated boxes: Good job on this assignment! I see rotation in your boxes. One thing to keep in mind is being a bit more organized so you can have an easier time figuring out information.

Organic perspective - I see depth, good job! One thing I'd like to touch on is your line weight. The topic is covered in later lessons but when line weight gets particularly thick we tend to see the object as closer than it actually is. It would be better if you showed variation in box sizes (big -> small) to show that things are receding into the distance.

Unfortunately I'm not able to mark this lesson as complete because the album is missing the second page of tables of ellipses. If you can respond back with an imgur link/preferred method to share the photo that'd be great ^^

    Next Steps:

You're missing one page of tables of ellipses :( Reply back with the image link/post/etc so I can mark the lesson as complete. Thanks!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
