Okay I'll try again. The bamboo one was my first attempt at any of them and I put and on discord and I think one of you TA reminded me to adhear to drawing through forms so I was trying to be better about it moving forward on the other plants. Not sure if It got better in the other ones?

    Alright so

Two pages of superimposed lines. So, your lines look confident it appears you are using your shoulder. The fraying is mostly towards the mid to end off the line and you took the time to make sure to start at your starting point each pass. That means you met the goal of the exercise. The lines will tighten up overtime. I like how you played around with the lines on second page.

Ghosted lines this exercise is meant to get you thinking before you draw planning out your movements and rely on your muscle memory from ghosting your lines. Your lines look to have some wobble this could be from not drawing from your shoulder and letting your brain course correct. Some over/undershooting is to be expected but it’s hard to tell because you attached your lines to fit more. We spoke about this on discord.

Ghosted planes your lines look mostly straight and connecting. You were adventurous with the sizes and shapes looks cool. Because your lines look smooth here I wasn’t too worried about the ghosted lines because you clearly did it here. You took advantage of the whole page.

Table of ellipse the goal of this was to get used to drawing ellipses in a variety of shapes and sizes. You also did a good job of fitting them within the bounds you set for yourself, you also drew through them. Pretty tight for lesson 1. I don’t see too much wobble or deformities. Great job.

Ellipses in planes these look smooth and they look like the fit into the bound you set out for yourself. Looks pretty good some are bumpy but you had some tough planes to fit into. You set the standards high unbeknownst to you having to use your planes later is tough! Good job

Funnels these came out good. Good spacing tight. You could have played around with the degree but that was optional. You met the standard for this.

Plotted perspective looks good you met the criteria for this

Rough perspective your lines run parallel and perpendicular to the horizon and they seem to converge to the VP. Those lines look pretty good too.

Rotated boxes this looks really good! You met the criteria.

Organic perspective this looks good you played around with overlapping, got some rotation, and some variation in size. You did what was expected of you here. Good job.

Some of your pictures are pretty blurry if you try and get better pictures it helps other people help you.

    Next Steps:

    250 box challenge.

    Okay let’s see.

Two pages of superimposed lines. So, your lines look confident and the fraying is mostly towards the mid to end off the line and you took the time to make sure to start at your starting point each line. That means you met the goal of the exercise. The lines will tighten up overtime.

Ghosted lines this exercise is meant to get you thinking before you draw planning out your movements and rely on your muscle memory from ghosting your lines. Your lines are pretty straight not a lot of wobble this is good. You have some acing this could be from not drawing from the shoulder or maybe not turning your page enough. Some over/undershooting is to be expected but you were mostly hitting your dots or being pretty close this could have caused the arcing straight confident lines first and foremost then worry about accuracy.

Ghosted planes your lines look mostly straight and connecting. You could have been a little bit more adventurous with the sizes and shapes don’t be afraid to play around there. You took advantage of the whole page. Especially the * you were making some great lines smooth confident.

Table of ellipse the goal of this was to get used to drawing ellipses in a variety of shapes and sizes. You also did a great job of fitting them within the bounds you set for yourself. Pretty tight for lesson 1. Great job.

Ellipses in planes these look smooth and they look like the fit into the bound you set out for yourself. Looks like you drew through more than you needed to on some of them.

Funnels these came out good. Good spacing tight. You tried to played around with the degree cool!

Plotted perspective looks good I thought there was supposed to be 3 different rectangles of them on a page sort of like the set up with the rough perspective. Looks like you got the idea anyway.

Rough perspective your lines run parallel and perpendicular to the horizon and they seem to converge to the VP good job!

Rotated boxes this looks really good! Do a good job with the educated guess work. Lines look good. You met the criteria.

Organic perspective this looks good you played around with size giving it a close/far away feel even got some rotation. You did what was expected of you here. Good job.

    Next Steps:

    Next stop 250 box challenge.

    Okay let’s take a look.

Two pages of superimposed lines. So, your lines look confident and the fraying is mostly towards the mid to end off the line. That means you met the goal of the exercise. The lines will tighten up overtime. You already seem to have faith in your muscle memory.

Ghosted lines this exercise is meant to get you thinking before you draw planning out your movements and rely on your muscle memory from ghosting your lines. Your lines are pretty straight not a lot of wobble this is great. Some over/undershooting is to be expected this is lesson 1.

Ghosted planes your lines look mostly straight and connecting. You could have been a little bit more adventurous with the sizes and shapes don’t be afraid to play around there. You took advantage of the whole page and it appears you draw your lines consistently with confidence with your shoulder.

Table of ellipse the goal of this was to get used to drawing ellipses in a variety of shapes and sizes. You also did a decent job of fitting them within the bounds you set for yourself. Sometimes they look a little bumpy but maybe that’s because you drew through them more than 3 times to make them adhere to the size you were shooting for only you would know that. I do a few rows of these when I warm up (even if I’m doing boxes that day) you might also see benefits if you do that.

Ellipses in planes these look a little rushed? or maybe lack of ghosting? Or maybe just not warmed up. I’d say same mostly thing here as I did about table of ellipses. But missed on hitting the bounds you set out for yourself.

Funnels these came out really good. Good spacing pretty tight You could have played around with the degree but that was totally optional. Good job.

Plotted perspective looks good you met the criteria.

Rough perspective your lines run parallel and perpendicular to the horizon and they seem to converge to the VP good job!

Rotated boxes this looks pretty good! Do a good job with the educated guess work. Lines look good.

Organic perspective this looks good you played around with size and rotation. You did what was expected of you here. Good job.

    Next Steps:

Next stop 250 box challenge. Work on those ellipses in planes you’re going to want to be good at that when lesson 2 comes along. Bonus if you also get good at degrees in funnels. I’d just add them to warm up.

hello I tried to make some marks and notes on your images to describe how I do it. I found it difficult to articulate in a way that would make sense on a comment board.

Please let me know if this was at all helpful. I can try and make it better.

    Hi Silb!

    Let’s see,

super imposed lines look confident you took the time to make sure to place your pen in the correct position in the beginning of your lines, the lines are mostly smooth not a lot of wobble. Confidence trusting your muscle memory was the goal of this. I think you accomplished that.

Ghosted lines these are mostly straight and close to your points there’s some slight arching in some but not much at all maybe you resorted to your wrist sometimes its hard to fight it especially with shorter lines or if you forgot to ghost before making the line.

Ghosted planes look good you can already see improvement from your first few pages of work.

Table of ellipses you kept within the parameters you set for your self and drew through your ellipses. Not too much wobble looks good.

Funnels you mostly stayed within your funnels the only thing I would say is you could to try and vary more by degree so the center ellipse would almost be like looking at the edge of a coin very narrow then get wider as you move away from the center. That was optional judging by your work Id say you're capable of trying that and Id think you’d benefit from the challenge.

Plotted perspective looks god you met the criteria.

Rough perspective me the criteria here too maybe a little more ghosting with your lines your going to get a lot of practice with that during the 250 box challenge anyway. Good job getting near vp.

    Rotated boxes looks really good.

Organic perspective You got some rotation and you played around with sizes this is good for lesson 1!

I don't know if I can be much help Im also working on my boxes. I put dots and compare them to the vanishing points and imagine them connected. Im starting to be able to tell whats to long/short with the dots. You can tell its going to skew the box by the dots especially whe you turn the paper.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
