Thank you very much for your encouraging words. Well, I am not very eloquent so I will keep it short: this course had extremely positive influence on my life - to me it is not "just" a drawing course - and I am extremely grateful to you for putting so much care into DaB and the community.

Btw: You are right about the last drawing, I was getting really desperate since at 8 hour mark there still was not a single "final" line, just construction and construction. I actually repeated to myself "just trust the process". But finishing the drawing felt great and I dare to say it was worth all the nerves.

Thank you for the critique and the example, I definitely underestimated the complexity of designing the cast shadows, it actually demands a lot of 3D thinking. I will try to do it correctly in Lesson 7.

Thank you very much for your critique. I will try to be mindful of the form vs cast shadows in the following part of DaB. I am afraid Lesson 7 might actually kill me but I will give it a try anyway.

Thank you, I really needed some encouraging words. I am ready for the next lesson.

Thank you very much for the critique. I really struggled with the horse heads, I just could not figure out the connection of muzzle to cranial ball. And you are right with the hybrid, I did not use reference, I just started piling on parts of different animals.

I really did not expect so many points - another reason why critiques are so important. But I agree with every point, I really have a great many things to work on.

Do you recommend coming back to the Lesson 5 from time to time or do I work on the weak points in the following lessons?

Thank you very much for the detailed critique. I need to work on my linework/shadows, so thank you for the hints.

Thank you very much. Very tasty critique, I love it. I do tend to rush through some of the drawing, even if unconsciously, and when I catch myself I try to focus again and slow down. And drawing the texture really does push me to my limits, I become overwhelmed and frustrated - I just need to slow down and accept it is hard and time consuming.

    Thank you again.

    Hello Uncomfortable,

First of all, thank you very much for the detailed and constructive critique.

While doing the revisions I concentrated on the linework as much as possible. It is still very sloppy but at least I am more aware of my mistakes. Going over my lines to reinforce them is still a total mess, I can ghost like crazy but my lines still split, but I guess it takes more than a few months. And I try to reinforce only individual sections.

As for my plants I picked the wood blewit because I wanted to capture the intersection between the two mushrooms. I redid the drawing many times - intersection of organic forms are brutal. It did not end up like I imagined it but it is an honest attempt. Last plant I did was Chinese lantern (withered) because I could not figure out, how to best approach the construction phase so it was a challenge for me. The lantern is see through and not completely regular. I attached the process as well - how would you go about drawing it? I did not concentrate on the details, since time is very scarce lately. Well I did try some details on the lanterns but I was too heavy handed with the lines and as a result the lantern does not look light and withered at all - I was trying to outline the shadows and then fill them but it slowly degenerated into controlled randomness. Not sure how to capture these very thin fibers.

    Hello,

thank you very much for the thorough critique! You are right in every aspect, I am not at all happy with my line quality and the texture exercices were really the hardest for me. I will try to implement all your suggestions for improvement.

    Off to the lesson 3.

Thank you very much for the critique. I will try to focus on the issues you have pointed out. I do have problem with the convergence of my lines - especially when the angle between them is small. I will have to practice more. And you are right with the ghosting on the hatching - sometimes I was rushing through them without ghosting.

    Thank you!

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

This is a remarkable little pen. Technically speaking, any brush pen of reasonable quality will do, but I'm especially fond of this one. It's incredibly difficult to draw with (especially at first) due to how much your stroke varies based on how much pressure you apply, and how you use it - but at the same time despite this frustration, it's also incredibly fun.

Moreover, due to the challenge of its use, it teaches you a lot about the nuances of one's stroke. These are the kinds of skills that one can carry over to standard felt tip pens, as well as to digital media. Really great for doodling and just enjoying yourself.
