Hi Sonia_S! I am Feldspar and I will be critiquing your work today. I hope you've been keeping up with your 50% rule and warmups while waiting! Lets start!

Lines

  • Superimposed Lines: I see your lines wobbling a little. It can be a hint that you are executing your marks not from your shoulder but I suggest it comes from hesitation and focusing on their desire for accuracy. Keep an eye on this throughout your warmups.

  • Ghosted Lines: Confident lines, good work!

  • Ghosted Planes: Solid planes!

Ellipses

  • Tables of Ellipses: I see some ellipses "float" on the page without any targets. Ellipses need to have two borders that encase them, to check their accuracy. But the vast majority of ellipses are evenly shaped and fit snugly against the borders. Solid work.

  • Ellipses in Planes: I notice your ellipses are a bit wobbly. Remember not to be too focused on fitting them against all four borders. But it's nothing some practice with warmups can't fix. Don't forget confidence beats accurate!

  • Funnels: Good funnels. Try to vary size and shape of ellipses through warmups and optionally change the degree with every ellipse.

Boxes

  • Plotted Perspective: Nothing to add here.

  • Rough Perspective: Some of the front/back faces of boxes are not rectangular. This is may be result of guessing but i suggest it is about accuracy as it happens not so often throughout your exercise and sort itself with warmups. Keep that in mind.

  • Rotated Boxes: You have a eye for rotations! Solid job.

  • Organic Perspective: Most of the edges of your boxes are diverging or parallel to each other. This may constitute a re-do, but I'm not gonna reassign this again, as I believe with 250 Boxes Challenge instructions, you will understand and get better with organic boxes too. I HIGHLY recommend reconsuming the material/ScyllaStew's videos before attempting Organic Boxes for warmup.

Next Steps:

I give greenlight to 250 Boxes Challenge.

Add these exercises to your warmup pool and don't forget about your %50 rule (I will advise if you haven't followed it, you should go ahead and pay your 50% play debt before the challenge)

Have fun!!!

Hi. Thank you for your prompt and useful feedback. Yes I am a bit lacking in confidence at times and it shows. Rough perspective feedback is what I was expecting. I will revisit the suggested material for Organic Boxes.

Also, I have done my 50% play also. Here is the link for it https://imgur.com/a/FVOBpRO ...just FYI

How do I get 2 agreements now?

You're welcome! You are on the right track. Accuracy will come with practice, as you work your way with warmups. Hope this critique help you understand your flaws and what you need to aim for. Cool 50% rule art tho ^^

About your question: To get agreements on your lesson submission other members of community need to check and agree with my critique to earn you a badge. To speed up this process you can ask on official discord server in corresponding channels. But badge is not a necessary thing when it comes to going further so you can start your 250 box challenge. Good luck!

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
