I too found it difficult drawing ellipses, and truth be told I still struggle with them sometimes (from time to time I get weird muscles spasms while I draw them)

Anyway I think it is just a matter of practice and time to be honest.

However I did try in the past months methods to make them better, but the results were not always satisfactory, one thing I did was to not ghost too much, like for maximum 4 to 6 times.

I also tried the reverse like ghosting from 10 to over 10 times, I think I got better results with the first method .

One other thing I did (and still do during awful drawing days) is to draw big ellipses with out any kind of confinements, I feel like it makes me use my shoulder to the fullest and also kinda helps me notice later on if I'm using my arm instead of my shoulder while drawing.

I hope these tips can help, however ultimately I think it just depends on practice.

Yeah the last two days I've just been grinding ellipses. I'll try out your recommendations!

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Staedtler Pigment Liners

Staedtler Pigment Liners

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
