boxes suck (and I don't even know the half of it)

Hey winnarly

i think you did a pretty good job with this lesson

your lines are pretty good but I would have ghosted them a bit more in the superimposed exercise, particularly for the longer ones, the ghosted lines look good to me.

In the ghosted planes i see that many lines coming from the corners and the crosses don't meet in a single centered point, I don't know how much it matters for the exercise but just for precision sake try to make them meet at the center, anyway good job.

as for the ellipses, they all have a good flow and are not bumpy, however in this case too I'd suggest you to ghost more because looking at the ellipses in plane exercise some of your ellipses get a bit out from the planes and some of the second strokes are kinda distant from the firsts.

funnels are well centered.

For the boxes part I can't provide an accurate critique forgive me, but i think you did a very good job

planned perspective and rough perspective are especially very good, you also did a good job with the rotating boxes

I don't think you are expected to do them "perfectly" to be honest, and In my opinion you drew them just fine especially for the rotated boxes.

Next Steps:

I think you should move to the 250 boxes challenge. Well done!

Thank you for the feedback! I almost quit over the rotated boxes exercise, but went back and just finished out the corners as quickly as I could even if they weren't entirely accurate.

I've been doing a lot of ellipses for warm ups, they're one of the more difficult things for me to draw. I ghost and I ghost and I ghost them, but then the pen hits the page and it's as though I never ghosted once. I think I'm improving, but it's much much slower progress than with lines. Any tips on how to make accurate ellipses would be massively appreciated!

I too found it difficult drawing ellipses, and truth be told I still struggle with them sometimes (from time to time I get weird muscles spasms while I draw them)

Anyway I think it is just a matter of practice and time to be honest.

However I did try in the past months methods to make them better, but the results were not always satisfactory, one thing I did was to not ghost too much, like for maximum 4 to 6 times.

I also tried the reverse like ghosting from 10 to over 10 times, I think I got better results with the first method .

One other thing I did (and still do during awful drawing days) is to draw big ellipses with out any kind of confinements, I feel like it makes me use my shoulder to the fullest and also kinda helps me notice later on if I'm using my arm instead of my shoulder while drawing.

I hope these tips can help, however ultimately I think it just depends on practice.

Yeah the last two days I've just been grinding ellipses. I'll try out your recommendations!

How to Draw by Scott Robertson

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
