Hi.

I have a few notes I'd like to add:

  1. I used ballpoint pen. I have in total 2 fine liners that I would like to save for future lessons. I live in a remote area in Kenya and can't find fineliners where I am. I got the two early in 2020 in a store in Nairobi but recently, because of the pandemic, the store doesn't have fineliners in stock. As soon as they do, I'll order some more.

  2. I find it hard to draw boxes on top of each other especially if they are see-through.

  3. I uploaded 2 Rotated boxes pictures. I like the one with fewer boxes but this course isn't about what I like, is it?

  4. The organic perspective was the hardest exercise. I hope I did enough to move to the next step. (Some boxes- x and y - look really bad. Sorry)

  5. Be tough, but gentle, okay? Cool.

  6. Thanks for the course.

Hi! Looking at your submission it is clear that you knew what you were aiming at. I am very young and green here but to me you have done good job. You struggled in organizing Perspective but as much I can tell you evolve and the second sheet is very well done. See you at the 250 boxes! Good luck!

In superimposed lines, I saw that many of the lines curve down in an arc, I assume they were drawn through the elbow pivot point.

In the rough perspective exercise, you used guide lines without tracing your lines. Thus, you have reduced the effect of this exercise, because you did not see where your lines actually point. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/step6

We are not plotting these red lines back to the VP - just to the horizon line. This will show us a concrete idea of how far off we were.

There's a good chance that you'll find them not intersecting with it at the vanishing point, and you may also find that the further away your boxes are from the VP, the further off they are in their alignment. This is totally normal, and it helps a great deal to go over our work in this manner to help identify where our estimation of perspective tends to drift, so we know what to focus on during our next attempt.

In the tables of ellipse exercise, it was assumed that the ellipses should touch two borders, I note as an mistake that there are sections where the ellipses are made without touching two borders.

In rotated box exercise 1 i saw mistake: Not actually rotating. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/17/notrotating

The corresponding edges of boxes are all converging towards roughly the same vanishing point. The same error can be traced in the second exercise along the horizontal axis. Perhaps because of this, you also got large gaps at the far end of the boxes.

You also didn't make good use neibouring edges to figuring out the angles of your new box edges. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/17/step7

But overall you did a good job and I recommend starting the 250 box challenge

Hi :)

starting off I think you did a good job in all of them, for the superimposed lines I see a bit of fanning at the start of the lines, try to always start at the same point and work towards the end slowly.

for the planes you did a really good job with the lines, your lines are confident and straight. The ellipses in planes and the table of ellipses are good have no comment on that.

For the funnels, I feel like the ellipses are getting taller while staying the same width, it's not bad but keep that in mind to make the ellipses wider as you go up and down the funnel.

You did a great job with plotted and rough perspective, have no comment on those.

for the rotated boxes, some of the boxes on the right side aren't rotating fully, with some other boxes but I think it's most prominent on on the right side. Using a box and rotating it in all directions can help with this.

For the organic boxes try making the boxes closer to you larger than boxes at the back.

Other than that, good luck with the 250 box challenge :)

Hi Luca here,

First of all congratulation on completing the first lesson.

1) Superimposed lines, I like your lines they are confident but sometimes they don't start from the same point try to pay more attention on where you start them, another thing is try to use more the shoulder and less the elbow I can see they tend to curve.

2)Table of elipses nicely done try to use the second pass to correct the elipses especially when they are far of the edge.

3)Ghosted planes and lines nothing to say I like your lines are confident and accurate

4)Funnel some elipses especially the more external tend to tilt a bit off the monor axis.

5)Elipses in planes no comment your confidence is consistent

6)Organic boxes the only issues here is the size of boxes, you should draw the closer to you the bigger the box

7)Rough and plotted persepctive nothing to add

8)rotated the external boxes top and bottom and sides should rotate more, next time try to complete the most external as well.

Overall great job you can go to the 250 boxes challenge. Good luck

Thank you for the critique.

I am practicing using the shoulder and not the elbow/wrist.

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
