Hello Minnori, I hope you're doing well.

I'll be dividing this critique into 3 sections. Lines, Ellipses, and Boxes.

I'll be starting with your lines.

Overall, I think that your lines came out very well. I see that you're prioritizing getting confident and straight lines instead of accurate ones, so great job.

I also see that your superimposed line exercise came out fairly well. There isn't much fraying at the start. They're nicely done.

    Moving onto your ellipses.

Your ellipses came out very smooth and confident. They're also mostly well kept in bounds, and on your funnels exercise. they're well aligned to the minor axis. You did a good job on those.

    Lastly, your boxes.

On your rough perspective exercise, you did a great job on forming the boxes with confident and straight lines.

Your rotated boxes exercise also turned out very nicely. Well done.

On your organic perspectives exercise, they're mostly well done, but I do see some convergence errors here and there. However, it's not a very significant thing to worry about as on the 250 boxes challenge, you'll get many chances to practice those.

Overall, fantastic job on all of your exercises. I'll be marking this lesson as complete and you're free to move onto the 250 boxes challenge. Good luck!

Hello Embryonox, I hope you're doing well.

I'll be dividing this critique into 3 sections. Lines, Ellipses, and boxes.

    Let's start with your lines.

I've noticed that mainly on your ghosted lines exercise, your lines are coming out quite wobbly. It's important that you prioritize straight and confident lines instead of accurate ones, as accuracy will develop throughout the course. Although, I did notice that it does get better near the end, so it shouldn't be a big problem.

For your superimposed line exercise, I don't see much fraying on the ends, so you did a good job on that.

Let's move on to your ellipses.

Overall, most of your ellipses came out smooth and confident. However, I've noticed that on the funnels exercise, the ellipses seem to wobble a bit, but it's not anything significant to worry about. However, some of the ellipses aren't quite aligned to the minor axis, so even if it means ignoring the initial curves, make sure you aim for the ellipses to be in 2 symmetrical halves.

I see that for the rest of the exercises, your ellipses are well kept in bounds and you're drawing through them multiple times, so good job on those.

    Lastly, your boxes.

On your rough perspective exercise, you did a pretty good job making the boxes and extending them out to the vanishing points.

For your rotated boxes exercise, the gaps are mostly narrow and consistent, but I'd advise to try to rotate the boxes a bit further. Aside from that, you did a good job on that.

There are a few convergence errors on your organic perspective exercise, but you'll get plenty of chances to work on it during the 250 boxes challenge.

Overall, you did a good job and you're free to move onto the 250 boxes challenge. Good luck!

    Hello Selfy100, I hope you're doing well.

I'll be dividing this critique into 3 sections. Lines, Ellipses, and boxes.

    Let's start with your lines.

Overall, I see that you're prioritizing confident and straight lines instead of accurate ones. However, I did notice that later on, mainly on your rough perspective exercise, your lines came out quite wobbly. Even on exercises like those, you should still try to prioritize straight and confident lines even if you miss the mark.

Other than that, your superimposed lines came out well. Not much fraying on the ends, so good job.

Let's move on to your ellipses.

I see that your ellipses came out very smooth and confident. The ellipses are drawn through multiple times, and they're also kept in the bounds very nicely. Great job.

    Lastly, your boxes.

Overall, the boxes themselves are drawn very well.

However, as I mentioned earlier, the lines for your boxes need to come out confident and straight, don't worry too much about accuracy as it will naturally improve throughout the course.

For your organic perspective exercise, there are a few convergence errors here and there, but as you do the 250 boxes challenge, you'll get lots of chances to work on it.

Overall, these exercises were done nicely. You're free to move onto the 250 boxes challenge.

Hello Giared, I hope you're doing well.

I'll be dividing this critique into 3 sections, lines, ellipses, and boxes.

    Starting with your lines.

I noticed that quite a few of them are coming out quite wobbly. Make sure to prioritize getting confident and straight lines instead of accurate ones, as accuracy will improve overtime.

There isn't much fraying on your superimposed lines, so good job on that.

    Moving on to your ellipses.

I see that most of your ellipses are well kept in bounds. However, similar to your lines, some of them are coming out quite wobbly, but it tends to get a bit better near the end, so don't worry too much about it.

With your funnels exercise, a few of them aren't quite aligned to the minor axis. Make sure you aim for the ellipses to be cut in 2 symmetrical halves even if that means you need to ignore the curves.

    Finally, your boxes.

You did a good job on making your boxes and extending them out to the vanishing point.

For your rotated boxes exercise, you seem to be keeping the gaps between your boxes narrow and consistent. However, you did run into the beginner mistake of just moving the boxes back in perspective. Make sure the vanishing points of your boxes are moving, and not converging towards the same vanishing points. (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/17/notrotating)

Lastly, on your organic perspective exercise, make sure to rotate your boxes a bit more.

Overall, you've done a pretty good job. You should definitely try to practice having a bit more confidence in your lines and focus more on making them straight instead of accuracy. Aside from that, the mistakes you've made isn't anything significant, so don't stress too much out on them.

You can move onto the 250 boxes challenge.

Hello Mrchungus, I hope you're doing well.

I will be dividing the critique in 3 sections, lines, ellipses, and boxes.

    Starting with your lines.

Most of them are coming out pretty well. However, it does get wobbly at times. Make sure to prioritize getting confident and straight lines instead of accurate ones, as accuracy will improve over time.

There's minimal fraying on both sides on your superimposed line exercise, and overall, your lines aren't arching very much. Great job.

    Moving on to your ellipses.

I see that most of them are drawn confidently and are kept within bounds pretty well. On your funnels exercise, the ellipses are aligned very well. Good job on those.

    Lastly, your boxes.

On your rough perspective exercise, you did a pretty good job making your boxes and extending them out to the vanishing point.

For your rotated boxes exercise, you did a good job of keeping the gaps between your boxes narrow and consistent. However, you should try rotating the boxes a bit further as you did run into the beginner mistake of just moving the boxes back in perspective. (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/17/notrotating)

For your organic perspective, there are a few convergence errors here and there, but as you move on to the 250 boxes challenge, you'll get to work more on those.

Hello, thank you so much for the great feedback!

I did the ghosted planes and the rough planes exercise while keeping your points in mind.

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
