Thanks for the thorough critique ThatOneMushroomGuy. You brought a lot to my attention and I appreciate it. I do have one question, do the branches and leaves exercises also get put into the warm up pool?

Woah! Saying texture is essentially the same core problem was pretty mind blowing. That helped a lot. So essentially as I continue to get better at understanding how macro sized objects relate to one and other, my understanding of texture should also increase.

I look forward to the new material on textures as well as just practicing more in the next lessons.

Thanks for the response and for everything else you do. Drawabox has been life changing.

Thanks for the critique Tofu. You provided a lot of useful information and I believe I know what I need to continue to work on. The hardest section in this lesson for me was a texture. I understand that we should be focused on cast shadows, but I have a hard time understanding how this always translates to creating a recognizable texture, especially with complex textures and textures that have a large variance between the objects that are creating the cast shadows. For example, the paint palette was extremely difficult for me to conceptualize because the big glops of paint created large cast shadows but they also had their own cast shadows from the ripples and folds of the paint glops themselves. Besides just practicing, are there any videos or reading material on the subject that you could recommend me?

Yes that helps and makes sense. I'll continue to work at it.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Hey Tofu,

Thanks for the critique. You provided a lot of useful information. It's great to hear that I'm doing well in my line work because it's something I've been mindful of. I will put more of an effort to drawing larger going forward as well. As far as the lines converging in pairs, is there any strategies to avoid it? I wasn't able to pin point the exact mistake I was making that caused the set of lines to split into two separate sets of lines. I noticed that it happened more frequently on rectangular boxes.

    Thanks again!

Hey Rob. Thanks a lot for the helpful and quick feedback, I really appreciate it. This is the most rigorous drawing course I have ever done so it's extremely reassuring to hear that I'm trending in the correct direction. I look forward to starting the 250 box challenge. Again, thanks a bunch!

Color and Light by James Gurney

Color and Light by James Gurney

Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
