That's totally fine and I understand. I'll keep going!

I'm really struggling drawing this owl's face/head. I tried to take step by step pictures of my process and I wanted to get your feedback. I don't understand how to make the face look like it's sitting inside the whole form. I also don't understand how to make the beak look 3D when it's directly facing forward.

Would you be able to help? I've added the link below.

No worries at all. I apologize for MY delayed response here too.

Just to give you an update. I took a break after getting a bit burnt out on drawing late last year. I've started again and I'm going to try to get you the homework by the end of the month.

I post it to this thread correct?

    Hello again,

I'm really struggling making these sausage forms look 3D and it's even harder making them fit nicely laying on top of each other. It seems I've lost my magic. Do you have any tips on the organic intersections exercise?

I'm really trying, but I feel kinda lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you this helps a lot!

    Hello,

This is amazing feedback. I'm going to work through this piece by piece. I already have some questions if you don't mind me asking.

The side of the sausage that is 'facing the viewer' is actually closer to the viewer correct? Therefore, the side facing away from the viewer is actually further away and would have a wider contour line? If that's the case, why does the ellipse that has both sides facing the viewer have wide contours near the tips and a very narrow contour down the middle?

Hope this makes sense. I'm trying to work this all out in my head, but it's tricky!

Alright I think I had a breakthrough. I just sat and drew leaves over and over and finally understood how to apply the information in the lessons. I focused on how they move throughout space and are actually 3d shapes instead of lines on the page.

I stopped trying to draw a 'realistic leaf' and focused on constructing something that looked like it had volume. Not sure if that makes sense, but it does in my mind.

These may not be perfect, but I at least think it's a huge improvement..

Let me know what you think!

Also thank you for the critique!

Let me know what you think of these new plants.

Staedtler Pigment Liners

Staedtler Pigment Liners

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
