Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply.

Yeah your ellipses are definitely looking a lot better (seriously the difference is night and day), and though precision is really important I believe it's better to have good flow from the outset and then work on precision rather than the other way around.

Yeah the organic perspective boxes are pretty difficult, but just make sure you understand the concepts and rules of perspective as you can check your work and see where you went wrong, I recommend doing the 250 box challenge if you haven't yet, as he outlines what you need to be looking out for as well as giving you a good amount of guided mileage.

I hope this is still relevant to you. Have a good one ????

First off, well done for getting lesson 3 finished ????

I have a couple of critiques for this one.

    1. Your leaves are looking a little stiff and lifeless, I understand that you may have closely followed your reference, however, the aim of this lesson is to get you comfortable with flow, so I encourage you push that a little more to really breath life into your drawings

    2. You need to pay attention to the degree of your ellipses when drawing cylinders. I.e the degree will get larger as they go away from you (Though this wasn't the focus of the lesson). I recommend doing the 250 cylinder challenge if you feel you need to practice this.

I've done a couple of 'draw overs' to show you what I mean:

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Next Steps:

    Attempt 250 Box Challenge.

Focus on the flow of the line when drawing 3D arrows or leaves.

First off great job on the textures. And your organic forms seem to be pretty much there.

One critique I would have however is that your boxes are looking a little wonky, and some of them have overly dramatic foreshortening (on the intersections page), so I would recommend that you have a crack at the 250 box challenge if you haven't already.

Please let me know if you need any tips or want me to explain anything.

    Next Steps:

Try and aim for more 'realistic' foreshortening.

Attempt the 250 Box Challenge with a focus on consistent convergence.

First of, well done for completing the lesson.

You are off to a good start with your ellipses and lines, though I would suggest concentrating on the flow for your ellipses to capture their curvature rather than feeling too constricted by the planes you are putting them in. I say this as some seem flat at points and sometimes end up being sausage shaped.

For your boxes, when things go AWAY from you, they converge. I know it might sound a bit patronising but keeping this in mind at all times makes things a little easier.

I've done a couple of draw overs to make it a little more clear.

Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.

    Next Steps:

Focus on drawing ellipses with a better flow.

Focus on creating consistent convergence for your boxes.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Okay, thank you very much. Would you recommend that I try the 250 cylinder challenge now then?

    5:31 PM, Saturday June 13th 2020

Thank you very much, I'm pleased to hear my stuff is okay.

And I did lesson the three over the course of a couple of days, doing about three hours a day, which is probably too much isn't it ????

Thank you for your excellent and in depth reply. I'm happy to know I'm on the right path and just need to be more confident.

Thank you again, this gives me a lot to go off.

Hi, thank you for the feedback, I've only just realized that I only just uploaded this page, when I was attempting to upload all the homework for lesson 1, I'm actually at the point of submitting lesson 2 homework.

Regardless I have revised what you asked and tried to make my lines a little thicker:

Let me know what I can improve.

    Thanks again.

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
