Thanks so much for the critique! I'm glad the huey turned out the way it did because I realised 3/4 of the way through I'd divided a plane incorrectly and just had to stick with.

Anyways, like I said, I truly never expected I'd get this far. This course has meant a lot to me and I really appreciate you putting it out there in the world. I'm looking forward to moving onto other topics of learning once I've paid of that 50 percent rule debt I have.

    Hi Uncomfy,

Just a quick note, number 23 does definitely look unfinished. This was the reference https://i.imgur.com/Lr3UnwD.jpeg which came from an album pinned in the discord channels 'advanced-challenges' channel. I wasn't sure what to add to it. I'm sure other students might find it and use it so I figured I'd give you the heads up.

It took me a few read throughs to understand your point about the cast shadows and diagrams but I think I understand it now. I was definitely guilty of doing the side plane at times.

Thanks as always for the critique.

    Hi Uncomfortable,

I must admit the inconsistencies in the course can be a bit confusing but I ultimately understand why they occur. A quick question I had in regards to that was if we should still flatten out the further back legs of quadrepeds with straight lines? I noticed the technique on more older videos so I wasn't certain whether to apply it.

In regards to the other points, yeah, they make a lot of sense. My instinct for not always following the exact recipe was trying to observe the reference and choose the right shapes but as you point out the homework is just exercises. I think it likely originates from doing Proko's figure drawing course at the same time where he suggests picking the write forms to suit in his mannequization video. Nonetheless, I also get why the sharp corners can be non-beneficial.

Thanks again for the in-depth critique and for clarifying that lots of feedback does not equal doing poorly. Prior to doing this course and seeing that video you linked from Steven Zapata, I had a less constructive reaction to making mistakes. I'd like to thank you for helping me get through that.

    Hi Uncomfortable,

I definitely think a lot of what you've said about my homework is spot on. I've written some notes on my notepad to emphasise the points you've demonstrated. Thanks again for the really in-depth critique! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this.

    Hi Tofu,

I think I understand what was meant about experimenting with line weights now. Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me. I'm really appreciating the in-depth responses to my submissions, and I don't mind the delay too much. It forces me to properly catch up on personal art and maintain the fifty percent rule

    Hi Tofu,

I definitely agree with the mistakes you noticed and will take on board your encouragement for continuing to experiment with line weights. Thanks so much for the detailed critique, its really appreciated.

    Hi Elodin,

Thanks a lot for the critique, this is really helpful. I wasn't certain how in-depth the official critique was going to be and I'm very satisfied with it. I definitely agree with the areas I could improve upon now that you've pointed them out.

How to Draw by Scott Robertson

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
