hahaha after 300 years of radiation, evolution took a few awkward turns (:

    dear Tofu,

thank you for your in depth critique! here's what I understood:

    arrows

    • more consistent widening

    • line weight on curves should be subtle

    • more overlap with arrows

    • increasing negative space as the arrow gets closer

    organic forms

    • consistent end size without distortions in the middle

    • better contour degree to express direction

    textures

    • focus on cast shadows instead of outlines

    • instead of lines, use wedges of shadow

    organic intersections

    • stack forms perpendicularly

    • consistent light source for shadows (above to side to start)

again, thanks a lot! take care (:

Thanks, Tofu! I'll continue to work on avoiding paired convergence and avoiding convergence as I do warm ups!

On a related note, check out this different version of the rotated boxes exercise I found!

On to lesson two! Take care! I ate tofu today btw. (:

    ????!

thank you, Chiran, for the help!

    • during warm ups, i'll try to make my box lines more smooth and confident!

    • i'm keeping track of time so i can be sure to spend 50% of it on drawing for fun! (:

    • i don't use the ghosting method! i know that's against the lessons, but i'm doing an experiment to see if i can develop smooth, confident, and accurate lines without ghosting. so far, it's hard, but the accuracy is improving and the warm ups help a lot!

Thanks for the critique, Svendogee! Btw, cool TIE interceptor! It's nuts to me that for you it's a "quick sketch"!!

I'll keep working these exercises as warm ups, focusing on these points:

    1. Reduce wobble

    2. Draw from the shoulder

    3. Ellipse contact with plane edges

    4. Ellipse minor axis alignment

    5. No line redraws (other than one extra to add weight)

    6. Rotated boxes: more rotation and tighter spacing

    7. Organic perspective: Better vanishing

    Cheers ~

Great app! Your Reddit post about the Y generator asked for suggestions or changes. I duplicated the code to a new project and modified your code to allow version wider variation between the line angles. I explained the details in my reply to you on Reddit.

How to Draw by Scott Robertson

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
