    Hi AjEI,

Great job on completing lesson 1. It's my first time reviewing, but I hope you find it constructive. So let's go through it.

    Superimposed Lines

Your lines look confident, but I feel a bit of arc in them. But I don't think it's anything to worry about, as you get better at it as you keep on practicing.

Consciously arcing your line slightly in the opposite direction will make the lines straighter, and in time your brain will associate that motion with a straight line.

    Ghosted Lines

Most of the lines look good, though there is some wobbling present. Just remember to ghost lines and then make a confident stroke.

    Ghosted Planes

The lines look good, you are overshooting some lines a little bit but it's better than hesitating, you'll hit your mark with more practice.

    Tables of Ellipses

So I found some errors here, most of your ellipses haven't been drawn through twice, you have come close, but not fully. A small number of ellipses are out of the bounds. And I'm feeling a little bit of hesitancy in some cases.

I would advise ghosting more to get a little confidence when you do put the pen down and go through it at least twice fully.

    Ellipses in Planes

These ellipses are much better. For the most part, they are well contained in the planes and you have gone over them twice.

    Funnels

Your ellipses are correctly aligned with the minor axes and drawn within the bounds of each funnel.

    Plotted Perspective

The boxes are plotted well in the 2 point perspective, good work.

    Rough Perspective

Your estimations are pretty good towards the vanishing point. I would advise practicing them during warm ups to get better.

Keep in mind that all horizontal lines should be perfectly parallel to the horizon and all vertical lines should be perfectly perpendicular to the horizon.

    Rotated Boxes

Great work on the rotated boxes! You have drawn them all, through them and rotated them well.

    Organic Perspective

A little more contrast in near and far boxes would have been great; it's not a big deal. You added a slight convergence to most of the boxes, very well done on that.

One problem here is that you have added multiple lines to correct some of the boxes. You should leave it as it is and try ghosting to make sure you are not correcting it afterwards.

Point 2 clearly states it helps if you look at your errors and learn from them.

    Next Steps:

I feel you are good to go to the 250 Box challenge. Just keep in mind some of the advice given and try it consciously in your warm-ups.

The third point here might answer why black is recommended, but if you are impatient to start you can use other colors for now.

I would advice getting/ordering black fineliner in the meantime, so you can start using that as soon as possible.

Thanks for the feedback, I will be working on my lines (the wobbling and arching).

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
