Thank you so so much!! :)
Thank you so so much!! :)
1. Super imposed lines
Looks great. Lines look confident which is key to lesson 1. Accuracy should improve over time as you practice more!
2. Ghosted Lines
Wow, well done. Lines seem very confident and smooth for the most part, AND you seem quite accurate too!
There was some slight wobbliness on the left most line, but overall you did great!
3. Ghosted planes + Ellipses
Slight wobbliness in some of your planes, remember smoothness is prioritized over accuracy. With that being said though, most of your lines are smooth so good job.
Ellipses are also done well; they are smooth. They break out of the planes' bounds slightly, but this should improve over time.
4. Table of Ellipses
Noticed some of your narrower ellipses are a bit tighter on one end of the ellipse compared to the other end. But I believe so long as you continue drawing through your shoulder, this should be sorted out over time.
Also make sure that all of your ellipses within a set are touching each other.
They slightly break out of bounds too, but again with practice I believe this will naturally improve.
5. Funnels
Good work on the funnels. I noticed some wobbliness in the center (aka most narrow) ellipses.
But as your ellipses get bigger, your smoothness improves. Be sure to practice your narrow ellipses more so that they can come out as smooth as your larger ellipses.
For the most part, you've successfully cut the ellipses in half as well. Nice!
6. Plotted Perspectives
Looks good, nothing wrong here in my opinion. Nice!
7. Rough Perspective
Slight wobbliness/shakiness in your lines. Make sure to draw the lines of your boxes more confidently.
Other than that, this looks good.
Your vertical and horizontal lines are nicely perpendicular to the horizon, good job.
8. Rotated Boxes
Nice work. Your line confidence/smoothness is well done here.
The most outer boxes (at the end of the horizontal and vertical axis) should be rotated a bit more in my opinion.
9. Organic Perspective
Nice work!
Line confidence is strong here.
The varying sizes from largest to smallest (aka closest to farthest) can be see here too.
Not really a critique, but I think you should experiment with drawing some of the boxes behind the previous box. (e.g. box 1 partially overlaps box 2)
Next Steps:
Good job overall. Just keep my minor points/tips in mind when you draw. Aside from this, I believe you are ready to move on.
1. Super Imposed Lines
2. Ghosted Lines
3. Ghosted Planes + Ellipses
4. Table of Ellipses
You've drawn through the ellipse 2-3 times, good!
Some of your ellipses break through the table bounds, but for the most part you're pretty accurate in staying within the bounds. I actually find that drawing my ellipses a little bit slower can increase my accuracy without sacrificing line smoothness/confidence.
5. Funnels
6. Plotted Perspective
7. Rough Perspective
There's some slight arching in your lines.
Also worth mentioning some of your vertical lines are angled/they aren't perpendicular to the horizon. This is a tough task no doubt (I struggled with it too), but it's worth keeping this in mind!
8. Rotated Boxes
Nice work.
Some boxes (such as in the top-right quadrant) aren't rotating much.
Also be sure to keep the corners/edges between boxes closer together!
9. Organic Perspective
I think the size of the boxes should vary a bit more because many of the boxes are too similar in size.
I.e. the boxes farthest from the viewer should be a bit smaller.
Next Steps:
Personally, I think you're ready to move on. Just keep some of the tips I mentioned in mind!
Some of you may remember James Gurney's breathtaking work in the Dinotopia series. This is easily my favourite book on the topic of colour and light, and comes highly recommended by any artist worth their salt. While it speaks from the perspective of a traditional painter, the information in this book is invaluable for work in any medium.
