I just want to say: thank you. I read this 4 times, I think I have a better sense of what I should do in lesson 5 now.

Thank you, I read TOFU's critiques, and your comment many times and it helped me a lot.

You've tried so hard, and got not so far. But in the end it does matter!

These drawing are horrible, they're too bad I have to laugh, but it's okay, things are okay.

Thank you for your comment. As you pointed out, sometimes I'm a little concerned about the accuracy leading to scratched lines.

Sometimes, when I draw ellipses, my anxiety peaks and starts to control me. My hands were so stiff and shaking that I had to stop and breathe. It's a strange thing though, when I don't care whether I can make confident and precise lines or not, things start to get a little better.

Hi POISIC, here are my critiques for your Lesson 1 assignments.

    THE GOOD

I think you were very careful with the submission, as shown in the image quality, overall line quality

    Lines

Your lines are good however some of them have some wobbling and arching, aiming for accuracy, loosed, and confidence at the same time is not easy, but things will improve over time with the ghosting method I think.

    Ellipses

Your Ellipses in planes are not good, you followed the rules I noticed but the overall shape of the ellipses is mostly distorted because your planes are distorted, which makes it harder the aim for the ellipses to fit and touch four sides. I personally have this problem cause Uncomfortable presenting the Ellipses in Planes assignment after the Ghosted Planes assignment. Maybe, you should try this Ellipses in Planes exercise one more time but with less distortion.

    Rough perspective

One piece of advice: your mind always seeks symmetry, straight, and stability; you must against that.

Sometimes, boxes are heavily distorted in perspectives, you should keep this in mind. My graphic design lecturer often told us to seek asymmetry because these two desires are opposite, which leads to a balanced one eventually.

    Rotated boxes

You should try this exercise more than once I think, 2 or 3 for me personally.

    Organic perspectives

There is some wobble in your mark-making for the organic perspective and some perspective issues however these will be addressed in the 250 box challenge.

Hi Jifisa, I just saw your assignments and agree with SEB critiques. I don't have anything more to say but one advice.

You're rushing with the assignment, as shown in your line's quality and how you prepare your rough perspective, organic perspective, and plotted perspective pages. You should be more careful and use a ruler to draw the scene boxes.

Before doing the assignments, close your eyes and breathe deeply, carefully prepare the pages; these are the moments for your mind to calm down. And things are easier when you have a fresh focused mind no?

    Thanks for the critique!

I personally notice that I have the tendency to draw many lines on top of each other, this is a very strong habit when I working with a pencil that I trying to break.

I will add the ghosted planes without ellipses later, I forgot to photo them.

Hi, my name is Chi, I've taken some time to view your work and have a few things that may help you.

Overall, you've taken your time to complete all the assignments with recommended tools and techniques, congratulations!

But here are some problems that I've seen in your work:

    • Line: In the first 4 exercises, your line is straightforward, smooth, and confident, but when it comes to the box exercises your line loses that sense of confidence. Maybe you should do some warmup exercises before attempting to draw. You can check this video: Meditation for Artists - The Automatic Drawing Technique - Proko

    • Rough perspective: This exercise is challenging, I struggled with it a lot, but in the drawing process I've learned very useful techniques: use your pen as a ruler to measure the angle that you want to draw, make a point to mark the position, and finally use the ghosting method. However, it does not guarantee perfection, but it's easier than just eyeballing.

    • Rotated boxes: In this exercise, you did a good job in making the whole look consistent, it has the line quality problem mentioned above. And here is my tip, my mindset for this exercise is to imagine the whole shape as a sphere, just like the model of the Earth you see in geography class, the vertical and horizontal lines are lines of longitude and latitude, it helps visualize the whole form a bit easier.

Well, that's all I can say, keep drawing mate, bye.

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
