somethingX in the post "/r/ArtFundamentals (not Drawabox) will be shutting down permanently"

Will my saved posts from this sub go when you shut it down? I have a lot of saved posts from here with useful information in them.

If yes, how should I go about saving the information?

somethingX in the post "Are drawing skills like "riding a bike", once you know how to do it you never forget? Or do you have to continue practicing to not lose your skill?"

2022-09-19 00:18

Every skill gets rusty over time, even bike riding despite that old saying. That's one of the reasons why consistency is so important, if you're on off with drawing your skills get rusty during those off periods and progress gets much slower.

somethingX in the post "is drawabox good for stylization?"

2022-09-09 03:43

It's better than more traditional drawing classes for it. DaB isn't concerned about perfectly replicating a reference photo, it's about understanding the thing you're trying to draw in space. That helps you draw it from multiple different perspectives, like for example in different panels of a comic. The course doesn't go into stylization itself but the fundamentals are just as important for stylized art as they are for realism, so you'll still get a lot out of it.

Personally I use pencil during warm ups to save on ink. I haven't found any significant difference between doing warm ups with either tool.

I use sketchbooks for the same reason as you, I haven't run into any issues with them.

somethingX in the post "DaB, ADD, and Depression; Is This Course Right For Me?"

2021-12-23 17:48

I don't have MDD but I do have ADHD, and for me doing a little everyday is what finally helped me stay consistent after being in your position for so long. Your progress may seem slow but it's still faster than doing a bunch and then burning out and then doing a bunch again and burning out again.

I know habit building is rough, especially for you, but being able to do something regularly is a key component to getting good at a skill. Even if DaB isn't part of how you improve, no matter what courses you do you'll still have to be consistent.

On a slightly less related note lessons 3-5 do cover the construction of living things, and while DaB doesn't go into anatomy those concepts are still useful for it. You can probably ignore the last 2 lessons if character drawing is all you're interested in, but I think doing the first 5 lessons would be beneficial.

somethingX in the post "When you want your drawings to actually look good, do you still draw the construction lines like spheres, cylinders etc or do you you just imagine them in your mind and draw without them so the drawing looks cleaner?"

2021-12-11 23:10

There's no reason to not use them, in an actual drawing they can be removed by drawing on a different layer, coloring over the lines till they're not visible or going over the main lines with ink then erasing the construction lines. It just depends on what medium you use.

somethingX in the post "The Rotated Boxes exercise is too hard for me, i tried my best but result is terrible. Should i move on?"

2021-11-23 20:46

Yes. Rotated boxes is the hardest exercise in lesson 1, if you're a beginner it's unlikely it'd come out well. Finish the lesson and submit it online for critique, then it can be seen if you can move on from lesson 1 or not.
