Moonchild567 in the post "100 Treasure Chest Challenge"

Hey Uncomfortable, here are 20 new designs I did with a lot less reference in some and really tried to go for my own ideas. Texture was still a problem, which I will try to focus on next. Hope you enjoy them. Thank you for your help.

Thank youvery much for the answer. I will definitely explore some designs and give it a shot on my own. I already use PureRef and it's fantastic. Will do some chest designs on my own now and post them and use what you told me for that. Just wanted to be honest on my approach how I did it.

Thanks for the response and the great. Really glad you enjoyed my work, but I feel like maybe I did something wrong in the design part. I was heavily using reference, should I have done this or not? I was looking back on the description and was wondering if I should have used my imagination more than the references. Kind of confused because I tried something new every time I did a chest, but those were not my own design ideas. I did not want to fuck up the purpose of this exercise. If that was wrong interpretation of the lesson I will do it again.

You are right about the texture, I will definitely work on that and do the exercise. I will also work on the estimation of convergences of the parallel lines. Doing boxes and dividing them and trying to match the vanishing points will be an exercise I will do more often.

Hey uncomfortable, it's been a while since I uploaded stuff. Finished this challenge in november and wanted to upload it together with lesson 7, but I will work on five more cars and the wheels challenge before. I really enjoyed this challenge and liked the design aspect. I twisted the numbers in the beginning don't know what happened, sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks in advance for your critique. There are some shaky attemps, but would be great to get some feedback on how to improve. Have a great day and thanks.

Cheers.

Thank you very much for the great feedback! Yes the line weight was definitely heavier on the mistakes were I tried to correct it. The boxes are a big problem and I will look into the 250 boxes challenge again and work on it.

Hi uncomfortable, I have finished my lesson now and wow... did I struggle hard. I really need to work hard on this before tackling the next one. I will definitely rewatch your video and reread your object examples. Really looking forward to your critique and advice on how to improve.

Have a great day and thanks in advance :)

Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm very glad to hear that I am moving in the right direction. I will continue working on the contouring and my observation skills (looking longer at my reference).

Hello uncomfortable, I'm back with some drawings. I really enjoyed drawing animals, it was a real pleasure and I will continue drawing some in the future. But it was really hard, espacially the heads of the animals. It was definitely a hard task and I was not always happy with the results in the end. Sometimes it got quite messy and the muscle parts (added layers) were tricky. So I would have no problem, if you want me to draw more, if necessary.

Thank you. Yes the spider was very michelin like, had to laugh quite a bit looking at it right now :D. I will definitely avoid it and try to get the flow better for the limbs.

Thank you for the critique. You were totally right about overthinking the details. I really lost focus on the construction and was thinking about drawing a pretty picture.

The 4 additional pages of just the construction were really good for the mindset of getting the construction first. Personally I enjoy the construction of these insects.

Thanks for the notes at the texture challenge.

Hello uncomfortable! Here are my crawlers and spiders. The texture was really challenging, but it was a real pleasure drawing most of them.

Thank you very much. I will work on my approach on my problem areas. Definitely the observation part needs to be improved.

Hey Uncomfortable! Finished lesson 3 and the leafs were a really hard task. Especially when they were "flowerish". The parts where there was lots of leafs was very difficult for me. At the tomato plant, which took me a long time, I left out lots of leafs, because it got too overloaded. Was that okay or should I have drawn more or all of them?

Thank you in advance.

Hey uncomfortable! Done with lesson 2 now. Really had trouble with the form intersections. Should I redo the lesson? I would think as the next step I should do the texture challenge.

Thank you very much! I will take more time in preparation. :)

Hey uncomfortable! I started with a few exercises on lesson 2, but I chose to do the 250 cylinders first. I had some difficulties with those in the boxes. Number 238: Should I elongate the elips to the corners ? I watched the videos and I am not sure if I did the right thing on paper. Sometimes I got sloppy and insecure. http://imgur.com/a/FWLWP

Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much! I will use this on pages of challenges. Next I will go on to lesson 2 :)

Hello Uncompfortable, here are my 250 boxes. It took me quite a while, but this exercise was really helpful. Sometimes I got a little under pressure and nervous, you can see it in my lines.

Shall I send you 2 extra pages (1 rotated boxes and 1 rough perspective boxes) ?. Anyways thank you in advance. http://imgur.com/a/EgEd7

Thank you very much for your advice. You clarified the core principals of the mistakes I made and I will will definitely work on the boxes (xray/drawing through them). I will do the 250 box challenge and additionally I will add one page of the rotated boxes and one of the rough perspective boxes as well.

Hello, this is my first try at the lessons. Really appreciate what you are doing! I really struggled with the boxes and lines. Unfortunately I got frustrated at the rotated one and you can see why :D. The ellipses felt better motionwise. Straight lines from right to left are kind of hard for me. Diagonal ones are easier. Perspective is also a hard part for my brain to figure out. Honestly I think I should do the whole lesson again. Thanks in advance for your help: http://imgur.com/a/zJEFH
