Hello I’ll be handling the critique for your lesson 2 homework.
Arrows
-Starting with the organic arrows these are drawn with a good deal of confidence which really helps to capture the fluidity with which they move through space, and you are already making some good attempts at the perspective of the ribbons, what you need to keep working on is the width of the arrow, remember that as it moves closer to us the ribbon should get wider, I think you are already aware of this but it you could definitely improve it. Lastly, I think your applications of lineweight are good as you have applied only on the local parts where overlap occurs.
Organic Forms with contours
-I can see that you have stuck to the characteristics of simple sausages, as most of them are evenly shaped and have a consistent width throughout their length, only very few of them look unequally sized.
-
Now regarding the contour ellipses, you are doing a great job with these ,you are clearly aware of how they are changing degree and they are fitting snugly within the sausage just remember that the little ellipse at the front should be placed on the part of the sausage that is closest to the viewer. Take a look at this diagram which should explain my point more clearly.

I think you need a bit more time to get comfortable with drawing the contour curves, try to imagine as if you were carving your pen along the surface of the sausage this way you will start to get the little bits of nuance that help describe how this form sits in space. Use the ghosting method to think about each mark’s purpose and how you're going to achieve it best.
Texture
-On the texture analysis I think you are doing a good job trying to focus more on the cast shadows, one thing that can always help you is to design the form of the shadow shape first, and then fill with ink that way you can achieve more dynamic textures.
-On the dissections sometimes you miss the opportunity to break the silhouette ,this is an important step as the silhouette is the first thing the eye recognizes and it can convey the texture of a form more easily than the cast shadows.Additionally I see that you are focusing more on the outlines rather than the cast shadows created by the form themselves, keep in mind that these shadows are cast from one form to another surface even if that surface if farther away, so you should always be aware of the form casting the shadow and the surface that receives it.
For more on the importance of focusing on cast shadows read here. I'd also like to quickly direct you to this image which shows that when we're working with thin line like textures, if we outline and fill the shadow we will create a much more dynamic texture than simply drawing lines.
-Moving to the form intersections, try to do your best to have each form with roughly the same dimensions, having some big forms and some small ones really breaks the cohesion of the whole set. Aside from this issue, you should not worry if you feel like you don’t fully grasp the intersections themselves, this exercise is just meant to get you acquainted with thinking about how forms relate to each other in 3D space-
-Finishing with the organic intersections I can see that you are getting a feel for how to stack these organic forms on top of one another. I can see a few issues, first, you are not drawing through your forms and you are letting the sausages cut off each other, in the future I want you to draw the sausages in their entirety. Lastly When drawing your shadows you don't push them far enough to cast, instead they mostly hug the form creating them, try pushing them further as shown here .
Okay, you need to keep working on some things but I have no doubt you will get better with practice, so I’ll go ahead and mark this lesson as complete. Good luck.
