Nice work finishing the challenge!

A few notes,

  • Please go back though and extend all of your lines. You miss a lot in the beginning and in the last 100 you dropped them totally, these extensions are a vital part of the challenge, you learn a lot from them and you lost a lot of improvement when you skipped them.

  • Don't get caught up with fancy corrections, simply do what the program asks (extending your lines) and that should be plenty to see your mistakes.

  • Instead of filling in your planes with a colored pencil, just use clean hatching with your pen.

  • Your lines have a tendency to wobble, remember, a clean crisp line is much more valuable than a wobbly accurate one, be confident and use the ghosting method

Next Steps:

Go back and extend all your lines, then I would like to see 25 more boxes. After each page is done you should go back and apply your line extensions for these 25, Limit your corrections to the line extensions and only use hatching to clarify what plane is facing the viewer.

Good luck!! You can do this

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Nice to hear from you again.

Your boxes are looking pretty good.

  • Extending your lines a bit farther might help you see further areas of improvement, especially on the sets that recede downwards.

  • Your boxes tend to have the same orientation and perspective, using this generator as a starting point in your future box exercises would be beneficial.

  • Your lines are converging nicely, however this method of construction, as well these notes on how you can think about converging lines could help you improve further.

Overall I would say you got the core idea of this challenge, remember to keep practicing your boxes in your warmups.

Next Steps:

Feel free to move onto lesson 2 :)

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
