hello!

I would love some feedback on my exercises from lesson one.

I had some issues in particular with the rough perspective and rotated boxes exercises.

With the rough perspective, I know that we had to use the vanishing point as a reference, but I was confused about why we were just comparing some of the angled lines to the horizontal instead of the VP. With the rotated boxes, it became confusing to draw through some of the boxes on the further left/right sides.

Hello NEHA18! Congratulations on finishing Lesson 1! I will critique your work, hope it will help.

I'll divide my comment into 3 sections.

Lines

Superimposed lines are mostly executed confidently. Overall they don't frail on both ends, they frail only on one, this is ok for now. But sometimes they frail on both ends, and this is a mistake. Please always make sure to spend enough time to place your starting point carefully. Second moment is that some of your lines arch a bit. Please draw every line from your shoulder and if you do but the problem still exist, try drawing an arch conciously in different direction.

Ghosting lines are fine, but sometimes they wobble at the very end. We should not worry to much about end point and instead prioritize confidence over accuracy.

Same goes for your planes:better to always concentrate on confidence, accuracy will come with practice.

Ellipses

In this section you did a really great job by executing ellipses confidently and drawing through them 2-3 times.

Ellipses in funnels is a very tough exercise and you nailed it well!

Boxes

Plotted perspective: some vertical lines are not parallel to each other, but overall ok.

Rough perspective:

Width lines must be parallel and height lines must be perpendicular to horizon because we assumed that. We draw in 1 point perspective to simplify the exercise. Without that we would need two more vanishing points for these lines. You'll practice it in 250 box challenge. But why you didn't continue some lines to horizon? It is a crucial point in this exercise. You should do this and check how far they are from VP. Also you should use ghosting method before so that your lines will be more accurate and confident.

Rotated boxes are very good. You kept them close and tried to draw through then.

Organic perspective.

Solid work! Nice variety of sizes and rotations.

Overall you have a great start! I hope this critique wasn't to harsh and will help you to improve even more.

Next Steps:

I would like you to do 1 more page of superimposed lines and 1 page of rough perspective.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hello Lyapka! Thank you for your feedback. I will keep those things in mind as I work through future art lessons. I redid Superimposed Lines and Rough Perspective. Please find the link below.

Would you suggest I move on to the Box Challenge or Lesson 2?

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
