Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
4:14 AM, Saturday January 2nd 2021
Hi,
Homework for Lesson 1. I'm not sure how posting works so please let me know if something's gone wrong.
Any feedback appreciated. Thanks
Hello~ I'm going to be as brief as I can.
You did a great work! There is not too much to said, you have some curvy lines so remember to keep drawing from your shoulder and do your warm up exercises.
LINES
Overall I can say that your lines are really good, they're smooth and confident. In the ghosted lines exercise some of them are curving a bit but you almost never missed the second dot, and you packed your pages with planes well done.
ELLIPSES
In the tables your ellipses are snuggling within each other and you went trough them two or more times. In the planes with ellipses most of the ellipses are touching the four edges of the plane, good. The funnels are cutting the ellipses in two symmetrical half. The only thing that I would point here is that I noticed some wobbly lines here and there, but this is a matter of practice so no worries.
BOXES
Plotted perspective looks nice and clean. The height of the boxes in rough perspective is perpendicular to the horizon and the width is parallel to the horizon, here some lines are a bit wobbly but I find this exercise quite challenging, also in the second page your extended line are really close to the VP, well done! The rotated boxes are well done, you used the neighbor edges to find the position of the new boxes. The organic perspective is also really nice~ You've could added some line weight to clarify which boxes are in front and if you want to repeat the exercise in the future you can draw the boxes closer to each other.
If you have questions feel free to ask :)
Next Steps:
Your work is great! Move to the 250 boxes challenge
Whoo thank you for the detailed critique! Much appreciated. Yes I do struggle with making sure I'm still drawing from the shoulder and keeping my lines straight and accurate. I'll keep everything you said in mind and move on to the 250 box challenge now :)
These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
