Hi I'll be handling the critique of your 250 box challenge, but before let me congratulate upon completing, it certainly requires time and patience.

So let's start

-A problem that shows up for a good part is that you tended to draw small and clump your boxes together, it seems that you corrected this as you went which is good, keep in mind that when we draw smaller it is more difficult to ghost your lines and draw from your shoulder.

-The most consistent problem that shows up in your work i the tendency to draw parallel lines, this is something you want to avoid you have to let them converge even if it's just slightly so keep that in mind. Take a loo at this

-Another problem that I'm seeing is that you didn't extend your lines very far, this combined with my previous point makes it harder to study your mistakes, with no discernible rate of foreshortening and very small extended lines it becomes a difficult task.

-Keep in mind that the hatching lines should also be ghosted.

-Another problem that shows up a lot less frequently are diverging lines, so keep an eye for those.

-As a final note I'd like you to experiment more with the rates of foreshortening, and the size and orientation of the boxes, you can do it as part of your practice, but for the moment I will mark this lesson as complete

You can move on to the next lesson.

Staedtler Pigment Liners

Staedtler Pigment Liners

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
