Hy guys. I did the 250 boxes challenge, it was really hard, but is complete. I will confess, I did 38 pages a little wrong xD, English is not my main language so some little things I don't understand and this time I've forgot to read another time, the only thing that I did wrong was add weight to the internal lines with the external ones, the last four pages are right xD. Despite this error I think that I understood the main idea of it, my perspective is a lot better, the understanding of the 3D form is better too. The only thing that I didn't get that better was to add weight, to draw a line on top of the other with the ghost method is very difficult, I improved a little, I would like some tips.

The last two pages I did on another table, I am almost 2 meters tall, draw on a normal table makes my back hurt, I bought a portable table for artists, it makes wonders.

I think is just that, sorry for some bad photos but my smartphone is broken.

Thanks for reading. Bye!

Hello, Lucas. Congratulations for finishing the 250 Box Submission - and good on you for trying to make sense of the instructions even though English isn't your main language! Here's some feedback from me, hopefully it's useful:

What I think you did well on:

  • Extending your lines in the proper direction

  • Using a variety of orientations for your boxes

  • Consistently drawing the correct convergences for your boxes. Although the first few pages are a bit rough (it's normal) It's clear by the end that you've got a good understanding of how lines work in 3D space.

Some things you could work on:

  • There's good attempt at lineweight and hatching but there are some wobbly lines. Remember to prioritize confidence over accuracy. Ghost, use your shoulder, and remember to put your pen down on the starting point (and draw the points).

  • Some of the inner corners for your boxes (especially those with unusual orientations) are out of perspective. Try plotting the outer edges first and then move to the inward corner (while keeping in mind the converging relationships between the lines).

Next Steps:

It seems like you've got the gist of things, so move on to Lesson 2!

Thanks for the feedback, I really had hard time trying to do the lineweight, I'll look into it. The inner Corners are really hard to do xD, I always thought "Damn, I cant put all of them right!! Arrghh". I'll Put some work on it, thanks.

Staedtler Pigment Liners

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
