My takeaway at this moment is that I am still afraid of the pen. The Two-Point perspective exercise really improved my confidence with how hard to press the fineliner but short marks are the bane of my existence still. Big shapes are getting easier and easier, though!

Judging by your work and my experice on this lesson your work looks fantastic if your still afriad about an exercise redo if you fell like its nesscary but overall noce job.

Next Steps:

Usually once your done on lesson 1 you start doing 250 box challge i reccomend it before you do lessson 2.

When giving feedback in the future, in order to provide more specific observations/suggestions, try using Elodin's checklists. He's got one for:

While we appreciate the intent, critiques definitely do need to be more detailed in order to be valuable to the student. If you don't feel you have the time or capacity to provide one, that's totally okay - you're volunteering your time after all. In that case, leave it to someone else who can. Jumping in and doing the critique anyway will reduce the student's chances of getting more detailed feedback from someone else (unless they mark your critique as unhelpful, which some students may avoid out of a fear of being ungrateful).

i will go through each exercise one by one

1.superimposed lines

your superimposed lines were quite straight and fraying from one end which is fine. the starting point was clear and the lines weren't fraying from the start so thats great. the curved lines on the second page could use some work but overall nice work

ghosted lines

the ghosted lines were a little wobbly but its fine and its certainly a good start.

2.ghosted planes

the lines of the planes seemed to go a little out from where they were intended on such as the bisector being overshoot outside the quadrilateral shape. the 2nd page was better than the 1st so its good improvement. avoid getting the lines out of where they are intended to be.

3.tables of ellipses

in the 1st page of the tables of ellipses in the 1st 4 boxes the ellipses weren't snugly next to eachother nor were they properly touching the edges of the box. this problem wasnt there in the second page. some ellipses were moving out of the lines. overall your ellipses look really neat and uniform.

4.ellipses in planes

this exercise needed the ellipses present in the plane to touch 4 sides of the plane the top, bottom, left amd right. most of your ellipses seemed to float in the plane and didn't touch the edges.in the 2nd page this mistake was less occurring. nice improvement!

5.funnels exercise

the ellipses in the funnels werent touching eachother snugly. and the degree of your ellipses didnt change much. this isn't a huge problem but keep it in your mind as you do your warm ups.

6.plotted perspective

this exercise was done really neatly and accurately so good job! only problem is the hatching with the left box of the 1st frame looking different than the others.

7.rough perspective

in this exercise your pen seemed to be hovering over the page which probably caused the lines to look so light. or your ink was nearing its end. the vp was achieved close so nice job!

8.rotated box exercise

your work seems to miss a few boxes which can be a problem. you should have 5 boxes in the vertical plane and 5 boxes in the horizontal plane. the hatching was done nicely. however you kept the corners at a good and equal distance throughout. so great job!

9.organic perspective

this exercise was also done neatly but i would recommend to get a new fine liner since your lines are becoming light which will take away the fine and bold lines you would be able to make otherwise.

overall nicely done!

Next Steps:

next comes up the 250 box challenge. it take alot of time slowly but surely you will be able to make it through. keep up the hard work!

These are what I use when doing these exercises. They usually run somewhere in the middle of the price/quality range, and are often sold in sets of different line weights - remember that for the Drawabox lessons, we only really use the 0.5s, so try and find sets that sell only one size.

Alternatively, if at all possible, going to an art supply store and buying the pens in person is often better because they'll generally sell them individually and allow you to test them out before you buy (to weed out any duds).
