I did 2 pages Funnels by mistake and i strugle alot with ellipses, especially with funnels exercise.
Any tips and feedback on how I can improve??
Nice confidence! In general, I’ll recommend rotating around your ellipses 2 full times, and maybe spending a liiitle more time ghosting. Moving on to the specific exercises, for the table of ellipses exercise I’ll recommend having the outer bounds be inside of your page (rather than having the edges of it be the bounds), and being a little more mindful of the minor axis in the funnels exercise. This last part is particularly important. The minor axis is meant to cut each ellipse into 2 equal, symmetrical halves, so they cannot be titled.
Thanks for the reply!
Yeah I have problem when it comes to the minor axis, it was hard for me to cut each ellipse into 2 equal. Any tips on how I can improve with the funnels exercise (The minor axis)?
Provided the funnel is drawn correctly (which is a lot easier to do if you draw the outer bounds first (using a plate, or something similar), and then add the minor axis), it’s all a matter of making sure the ellipses are straight, rather than tilted. For my part, it helps to align my hand so that it’s parallel to the minor axis, and looking at it as I ghost, rather than the bounds.
Okej I will try it in my next warm up!
Thanks for the feedback!
While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.
The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
