You are avoiding the proper steps. Please read carefully:

First. Mark the paper where the corner of a plane.

Second. Taking a pair of marks, ghost over them and be sure you start your stroke on one of them. You are currently missing both marks when joining a pair. The goal is to make a confident line between the two marks but you should at least hit the starting point. You should also try to make confident lines and avoid trying to correct the trajectory of your strokes.

You don't need to match the end mark on a pair of marks. Your focus should be on starting on the start mark and doing the stroke without worry about matching the other mark.

I will continue to request revisions until you get this right so please be sure to read carefully, re-read the lesson if necessary and question me or anyone on discord about any doubt or problem you could have. This is the foundation on which the rest of lessons are build on top of. If you get this wrong the rest of the efforts would be useless.

With all of this said. I want you to make 5 pages of ghosted planes. Focus on starting in one of the marks you put and making confident lines. You don't need to reach the end mark, just aim towards it and that would be enough.

Next Steps:

5 pages of ghosted planes

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

I think you got the point.

A couple more things to have in mind:

  • Don't re-do already done lines. It just make the mistakes more obvious and it's worse towards evaluation because the page is filled with multiple attempts instead of one

  • If you keep overdrawing the lines, lift your hand entirely when you feel you are over the end of the stroke. It should be easier than to stop the hand completely.

I think you got the idea to make your lines more confident and to take your time for each line. Now you are going to face 250 box challenge and i recommend you to warm up with some planes before each session and to take your time to conquer that challenge.

Good luck with that and remember to apply all you have learned on this lesson.

Next Steps:

Continue with 250 box challenge.

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
