Hello Rod! Congratulations on completing lesson 1! I hope you learned something from it!

I will be reviewing your work! I'll be using Elodin's guide as well as provide my own observations!

Lines

Your superimposed lines are good! I do notice that your longer ones tend to arch however. They do get better as I looked at your later assignments! Just make sure you're marking your lines with your shoulder, having it pivot. If you're doing that and you're still having trouble with arching, try to arch consciously to the opposite direction when you mark your lines.

Ghosted lines are also decent, there are some lines that look as if you're trying to be accurate which results in some arching. Don't focus on accuracy too much, it's more about how confident and smooth the line should be.

You're ghosted planes are well done! Not much to be said here.

Ellipses

Your ellipses are well done! Your table of ellipses have a few to occasional circles that do not touch like here, this also happens in your ellipses in planes and your funnels especially. It should get better as you progress though later lessons but keep in mind of this mistake.

Boxes

Plotted perspective is good, not much to be said here.

Rough perspective is good, however keep in mind of having your width lines being parallel to horizon and height lines being perpendicular to horizon. I saw a few of your boxes have that issue.

Not much to be said about organic perspective as the mistakes you've made there will be discussed in the 250 Box Challenge.

Overall, great job! I hope this critique helped you! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reply. I'll do my best to help you.

Next Steps:

Well done! Your next steps are to proceed to the 250 Box Challenge, it's quite hard and takes very long to complete but take your time, do the best that you can and try not to burn out.

I recommend that after you read the instructions of how to do the challenge, look at some videos on YouTube on how to draw a box along with some critiques of the challenge so you can better understand what you're aiming for. There's also the Discord server, where you can post your progress while doing the challenge and get feedback.

Good luck!

Thank you for the Feedback! I will try to fix the issues on my warmups!

I actually have one question about elipses...

When i draw elipses fast and confident , they get "round" and flowy , but i cant control the elipse width and height so at 1st and 2nd rotation , i lose control and overshoot them.

When i draw them slowly , i have higher chances of getting them with width and height i want and the 2nd rotation almost exactly on top of it , but they can wooble as i give my brain enough time to make my hand get a anxiety attack.

So i am wondering , in this case , what kind of accuracy i should choose? Good width and Height or flowy lines? or thats somenthing that will only get better as i my arm gets a mechanical memory?

Sorry if its hard to understand what i mean , my English is not very good.

Like lines, you should prioritize drawing confident and fast. So almost a mix of both, it's good to practice accuracy but your main focus should be centered around confident and smooth ellipses, no wobbling. Your accuracy should get better overtime as you progress.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
