Hello!

The critique of this lesson is usually extensive, so take your time and rest to read it.

Arrows:

Over all they look good. I see you dealt with arrows that fold back on themselves in space and some that do not.

Both will be needed in later lessons.

Most of your lines decrease in size and spacing according to perspective,

while some do not.

Try to make them all have that effect, as it gives the illusion of three-dimensionality.

Organic Shapes:

The shape of your sausages is just right.

Your ellipses line up correctly to the minor axis.

However I am concerned that these ellipses do not change their degree as they move away from the center of the shape. As here:

The degree should widen/narrow according to the distance from the angle of view.

Try not to add too many contour curves or ellipses to the same sausage as it looks very artificial.

With 3 or 4 of these very well planned should be enough.

Textures:

I'm impressed with how well you captured each texture.

It's good that you're focusing on the shadows cast rather than the shapes.

Dissections:

You may have focused a little too much on outlining every little shape in the texture, but I know this will diminish with practice.

There is no major detail here, you are wrapping the texture around the shape which is quite correct.

Shape intersection:

All your shapes look nicely drawn.

You've drawn a good amount, and each one seems to have been planned correctly.

I want to remind you of the importance in that all these shapes should appear to be in the same scene.

To achieve this you must draw your shapes with their sides equilateral, and with shallow foreshortening.

I see you tried to handle the intersections, it's good.

If you haven't understood them very well don't worry, they will be seen in the following sections more in depth.

Organic intersections:

Everything I mentioned about contour curves, sausage shape and ellipses applies here just the same.

Specifically: Your sausages look solid.

But some of them seem to be suspended in the air.

Try to think of your shapes as water balloons, so you think more about the weight of one over the others.

I'll leave you a little extra homework and just complete it when you have a chance.

There is certainly an improvement in the support of each sausage. Good job there.

Regarding the degree change in the contour curves, you can always exaggerate it a bit more, this will give it better three dimensionality.

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
