Lesson 2: Contour Lines, Texture and Construction

It is hard to represent texture, and had a little bit of trouble during the exercise intersections trying to figure it out how to show where the forms intersects.
Arrows
You got a few issues on those, first and most important is that those are wobbly. Remember that just like in lesson 2, it's more important to get confident lines than wobbly ones. Even if the wobbly lines are very accurate, no matter how off the confident ones are, they will be better. You seem to be rushing the hatching too, so take your time with it.
Don't repeat lines as well, no matter how off they are.
Organic forms
These are looking better, but you have some wobbly ellipses. Just like before, remember that confidence is more important than accuracy. You also got some bulging sausages. Remember that they should be simple, just like it's mentioned here
Textures
Textures look mostly good, but remember that you should look at the reference before making any tiny little mark and copying it to the paper. More or less 90% observation 10% drawing. You seem to be focusing a bit too much on contours. You should only draw cast shadows, not contours. So be careful with that.
Same goes with dissections. And remember that your textures should wrap around the textures of the dissections.
Form intersections
Mostly good job with lines, though you have some a bit wobbly and you're repeating some of them as well. Don't repeat any line, and just like I said before, confidence > accuracy always.
Main objective of this exercise is to make forms resemble like they're sharing the same space. To do this you need to make those forms have consistent foreshortening. And to do this it's easier with shallow foreshortening forms. So try to focus on them on your next attempts to this exercise.
Organic intersections
These looks mostly believable as 3d forms interacting good job! Try to stick, just like in the organic forms exercise to simple forms however. Don't forget to fill the shadows with black too, as the white dots are distracting to the viewer. And remember that you can add lineweight to clarify overlaps.
Next Steps:
I want to see 1 page of arrows
2 pages of organic forms with contour ellipses
1 page of organic intersections.
Focus on making the lines confident and on everything I said. Focus on making the shapes of the sausages correct as well. Good luck and keep up the good work!
Thank you for the well-explained critique. I finished the exercises you asked following your tips I guess I did a bit better this time.
Alright! Arrows are much better, only problem I can see is that the hatching is a bit rushed. Like I said before, plan each mark you do carefully.
Sausages keep having the same issue as before, so I'm noting some of the issues here, I hope it's a bit more clear.
And lastly, organic intersections, they're better than the others, but you have shadows sticking to your forms. Remember that the shadows have to follow the form of the object they're being casted on. I noted here as well some examples to make it more clear.

This time I did the exercises focusing more on keeping the forms of the sausages simple, there were some forms that a I felt some distortion on the balls at the end so I try to solve that with the perspective of the contour lines.
Also focused on the cast shadows on the organic intersection exercise.
This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.
When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.
Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
