Taking breaks whenever you feel pain like that is the right course of action. Of course that inevitably means that everything will still take a lot more time, but that is simply the way it is.

For smaller marks, we can often also find ourselves tightening up on the pen, which can exacerbate such issues, so try to always loosen your grip.

I would however urge you to look into physiotherapy if this is something you're encountering a lot, and if it's possibly an option. They can teach a lot of really effective stretches while also zeroing in on the cause of the kind of pain you're experiencing and potentially helping you to eliminate it and really get the most out of your body.

Yes, I saw physiotherapist all last year, and she showed me all kinds of stretching exercises and how my work station should be and how I should position my body while I'm working in a sitting drawing position to avoid pain, but it still pops up from time to time, and some days are better than others. I just have to know when to take a break and when to continue, which is going to take time, and like you said, it is simply the way it is.

This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.

When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.

Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
