Hello Shuub,

Thank you for reuploading your work, I will be reviewing some of your work today, I hope that my critique is helpful to you.

Superimposed Lines

First things first, I can see fraying on one side mostly, which is great, but there are some times where you didn't take that extra care. Remember to always be patient while doing these exercises, taking the extra time to line the tip of your pen with the start of your line, this is very important as it's how you add proper lineweight and make your lines nice and smooth instead of messy.

You seem to draw unconfidently, as your lines are not straight and are instead wobbling along their length as you try to keep their accuracy. Don't forget that accuracy is irrelevant for dab exercises, instead we want confident, smooth lines before anything else.

https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/8/wobbling

You also seem to not be superimposing your lines quite enough for most of them, when you revisit this exercise in your warm ups, try to keep it around 8 times.

Ghosted Lines

No redoing lines, I can see that you've tried to fix some of your ghosted lines but a mistake is a mistake, you cannot correct it with a new line, therefore you should just let it be, work around it and make that a learning experience so you don't commit the same mistake next time.

When it comes to your lines they still have noticeable wobbling, arching, and overshooting. I can see improvement in some of your lines though, so good job.

Keep practicing this exercise as a warm up to keep developing your skills, and remember to prioritize confidence above all. If you find yourself having trouble with arching and overshooting in the future, try these.

Ghosted Planes

Again no redoing lines, you've done mostly good work on the perspective of your planes, some more variation would've been best however.

When it comes to your lines you have not added the dots for each of your lines, which shows me that you are not using the ghosting method correctly when it comes to this exercise.

https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/9/video

You need to put dots and ghost every line that you put down, including the + inside your planes. This is also true for every exercise you will encounter in this course, unless otherwise specified we'll always be using the ghosting method.

Table of Ellipses

I want you to make sure you're re-reading the exercise page for each of these assignments not just once, but everytime you attempt these exercises again. While Uncomfortable tried to make these lessons as easy to understand as possible, there is still a lot of information and you'll need to revisit it more than once to digest all of it.

For some of your ellipses, you're drawing through them too much, and for some only once. You should strive for 3 to 2 times, ideally 2. Drawing through your ellipses too much will make them feel crowded and messy, and only drawing once won't make them look nice and smooth. Which is why drawing through them 2 times is the perfect balance.

Good job on fitting them mostly inside the page, they do overlap and go out of bounds but that's expected and you'll improve with time. It would also be good to see you try a wider variety of degrees for your ellipses, try to remember this in your warm ups.

Ellipses in Planes

Good job on making your ellipses follow the general shape of your planes. I can see some who wobble quite a bit, meaning you tried to focus on accuracy too much though, so don't forget to put smooth and confident ellipses above accuracy just like with lines.

Refer back to the points in Table of ellipses to see what you could have done to execute your homework page better.

Funnels

It would've been good if you had tried to make your ellipses wider as they approach the edge of your funnel. Being able to draw a wide variety of ellipses will be especially useful in later exercises. You're still drawing through your ellipses too much, and you've had some trouble aligning your minor axis, remember that the minor axis cuts the ellipse into two equal parts.

Plotted Perspective

You have not followed the instructions for this exercise.

You did not plot your lines back to your vanishing point after your first frame, and repeated many lines.

https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/14/example

Rough Perspective

You have also not followed the instructions for this exercise correctly, instead you treated this exercise like plotted perspective.

It's pretty clear to me that you used a ruler, this exercise is the introduction to guessing your vanishing point, and getting you used to the fact that your lines converge.

https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/15/purpose

You should have ghosted your lines instead of using a ruler, and you've also redone many of your lines.

https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/15/example

Rotated Boxes

You did a good job trying to rotate the boxes, you did make box's edges bigger than the previous though, in perspective this would mean that the box is bigger than the one in front of it, which is not the point of this exercise, as all boxes should be the same size, just rotating which is why they will look smaller as they rotate away from the center box.

You forgot to draw through some of your boxes as well, you need to draw through all of them even if it starts to feel cluttered as that will help you develop your understanding of 3d space.

https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/notdrawingthrough

Remember to not rush, go at your own pace for these exercises. Otherwise you won't get the most out of it. Don't worry about the result of your rotated boxes though, you'll get much more experience once you tackle the 250 boxes challenge.

Organic Perspective

Good job on organic perspective! You seem to have understood the exercise, although it would've been nice to see you add more boxes and a wide variety of shapes.

I will not be moving you onto 250 boxes challenge just yet, as I feel you misunderstood the point of some exercises.

First of all thank you for critiquing my exercises,it was very helpful and i'll keep my mistakes in mind while doing the warmups and try improving on it. Sorry for replying late but here are the exercises you asked me to redo. I reread the homework instructions and realized the points i had missed while reading it earlier. I'm still having some trouble ghosting as you can see in the rough perspective exercise,ig i gotta

work on ghosting more.

I'm happy I was able to help!

Good job on plotted perspective, it's great and I don't think you could have done a better job.

For rough perspective, good job on keeping lines mostly parallel and perpendicular to the horizon. However just with other exercises you're having lots of trouble with your ghosting and redoing lines.

I strongly recommend that you focus on ghosted lines and planes due to your warm ups and try to address your problems there.

I'll be marking this Lesson as complete, but remember not to rush and go at your own pace in the next part of Drawabox.

Next Steps:

Move on to 250 boxes.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Drawabox-Tested Fineliners (Pack of 10, $17.50 USD)

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
