Sorry for the stinky lines, scanned using my phone which kind of messed with the quality.

I noticed a bad habit I had was putting too much weight on the lines, especially to cover up some mistakes or dots leftover, and ended up making them look bad. I also still have quite a bit of difficulty trying to chart the invisble lines, but think I did overall improve on getting most lines to the vanishing point I'd set.

I also applied a lot of (what I think is) foreshortening to my boxes around page 19 forwards, since I was confused as to whether I had to be stuck in 2-point perspective the whole time or free to place the vanishing points relatively anywhere in 3-point. I'm still not sure whether I'm right but I hope I can get some feedback on that.

Thanks in advance for any critiques!

Hi, is critique time~

As you mentioned your line weight is quite irregular, some of the boxes have a lot of it in some lines and others do not have enough, also the lines are still wobbly, but there was improvement as you progress in the challenge.

You tried different orientations, that's good because understanding how the move in 3D space is an important point in the challenge.

Your extended the lines in the correct directions that's another point for you ;)

However the lines came off pretty often, this also happened to me a lot sometimes with just a set of lines, you have to try thinking about the relations between them because the mistakes we did before are going to affect the next lines (https://i.imgur.com/8PqQLE0.png), also try a different sequence to draw the lines, here is another way to draw them https://imgur.com/FGdtVwm (links provided by Elodin).

Another thing is that I think your boxes looks quite small, it might not be the big deal but is better draw them bigger to get use to different sizes.

The hatching lines should be touching the sides of the box not floating in the face of the box, some of your lines touch one side of the box but fray the other one, they have to be tight and nice in the face of the box that is pointing toward the viewer.

I think that's everything, if there is another thing or I'm not being enough clear please feel free to ask me.

Congratulations on ending the challenge. You did well, this is a tough challenge but you went for it till the end.

Next Steps:

You should do some extra boxes (10-15) with the tips provided in the links to check if it can help you to improve the convergence of your lines.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hi, this reply is quite late (haven't had the time to draw recently) but thanks for the critique!

I tried redrawing some boxes per your advice here: https://imgur.com/a/lOtXbsB

I wasn't able to get it down exactly right since my line accuracy has deteriorated from not drawing for a month, but I think I get the relationships betwen the inner lines more now after having practised with your references. I hope I've improved, even if just a little bit.

Please let me know if there are any glaring issues with my revisions or if I still lack understanding in my drawings. Thanks, and sorry again for the (extremely) late reply!

Your boxes have improved, they look nice and clean. The convergence has also improved a lot, there are some lines that are still a bit off but this is just a matter of practice. Time to time draw some boxes as part of your warm ups because the boxes are going to be really important in further lessons.

Next Steps:

Congratulations, you have done a great work.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep practicing by boxes as I move along the lessons.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
