Hello, this is my first time sketching and stuff. I appreciate any feed back and what should I Practice, and how should I proceed in getting better. Thank you :)

In regards to Rough perspectives, I did two pages on 1 paper, however the pen I decided to use to plot back to the VP decided to bleed through and smear, making an incoherent mess of the other side. If I need too I can redo it.

ps. I'm new imgur so I apologize if there's double pictures.

Hi I'll be reviewing you're home work hope it helps

Lines: First of all with you're lines I notice that you're lines tend to arch and wobble slightly this is because your either not drawing using your shoulder or you simply not used to drawing with you're shoulder you can turn the page to find whatever angle is most comfortable for your arm. Also for arching lines you can try sub consciously think about drawing the line in the opposite direction it tends to arch and it usually balances things out.

Ellipses: I can see in your tables of ellipses the ellipses tend to be either too small or too big as well of there being cases there the ellipses overlap I would recommend ghosting you're ellipses more to get a better feel for how big they should be.

As for your planes of ellipses I can notice your ellipses aren't drawn with confidence while you should try to make you're ellipses fit within the planes you're main focus should be on drawing the ellipse smoothly. For your funnels of ellipses it's pretty much all the same advice I said about your tables and planes of ellipses.

If I had to add anything I can notice some of your ellipses don't aline with the minor axis you should try to make sure the ellipses are even as its the main way to know if your ellipse is correct or not.

Boxes: For your rough perspective I can notice some of you're lines are diagonal which is incorrect. You're horizon lines should be parallel to the horizon line and your vertical lines should be perpendicular to the horizon line don't worry much about them going back to the vanishing point as long as there close there good enough.

For you're Rotated Boxes the first thing I'd recommend is to add some line weight on the faces of your boxes as its hard to tell where one box ends and one begins. You're rotating are off what I usually do it before I draw a box I'll use the ones that are close to it as a guide for example if one of you're boxes is rotated by 40 degrees the boxes above and below it will also be Rotated by 40 degrees. Don't feel discouraged as this is easily the hardest exercise in lesson 1.

Finally your Organic Perspective can notice your boxes tend to converge incorrectly for example on you're second organic perspective post at the bottom we see the top of your box implying that it's we're looking down on it so the planes on the side should converge away from the viewer aka the bottom of the box should be smaller.

Next Steps:

Overall I recommend moving on to the 250 box challenge as it will explain any and all problems you have drawings boxes I also recommend you focus on drawing with confidence and ignoring accuracy for now

It is definitley alot to take in, but thank you, it helps a ton. I do have one final question, should just move on or should I redo some of these lessons?

nvm that question didn't see the "next step" part

I forgot to mention but you should keep doing these exercises as warmups for about 10 minutes a day the stuff you learn in drawabox will be work you do for years to improve line control form etc

For sure :)

My goals has been adjusted and will work on the "confident lines," as I suppose that will also help with control. Again thank you for the critique.

Take care, cheers.

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

The Science of Deciding What You Should Draw

Right from when students hit the 50% rule early on in Lesson 0, they ask the same question - "What am I supposed to draw?"

It's not magic. We're made to think that when someone just whips off interesting things to draw, that they're gifted in a way that we are not. The problem isn't that we don't have ideas - it's that the ideas we have are so vague, they feel like nothing at all. In this course, we're going to look at how we can explore, pursue, and develop those fuzzy notions into something more concrete.
