tysm for the detailed critique.

here's a link to the revised page of organic perspective

i had problems drawing short lines from the shoulder but it got better towards the end of the exercise. starting to see some patterns when constructing boxes

Edit:

quick question regarding the 250 box challenge: which plane of a box is the one facing the viewer. is it always the one with the sharpest angle on the Y

here's a link to my first page of the 250 box challenge:

before i move on, am i doing this correctly?

Great job, this is a solid improvement and just by not redrawing lines your work is looking much more confident overall. With the first page you did here of the 250 box challenge all of these boxes have 3 planes that are facing the viewer. This page looks fine overall although I would recommend numbering your boxes as you go. I'm going to mark this as complete and good luck with the 250 box challenge!

The 250 Box Challenge

awesome, thank you.

while i was doing the 250 box challenge, a technical confusion came up. does it matter, where the vanishing points lay on a given axis or can they be moved up and down arbitrarily along their axis

i drew this box with varying distances to the closest corner to clarify what i mean:

are all of these boxes technically correct?

Yes, but as you can see there is lots of distortion when the vps are very close.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
