Hello KATOKI!

Good work on completing lesson 1

let’s see how did you do!

1• For super imposed lines on the first page I see a lot of wobbling but you did improve on the second page. The lines are fraying only on one side, you did two pages of different lengths , you did what you were asked. Good job

2•For ghosted lines most of the lines are still wobbly but you show improvement going towards right side , I’m assuming you started from the left side. Also the lines are almost hitting both points and don’t arc much. Great!

3• In ghosted planes the line work has improved. Great job!

4• Your ellipses exercise also shows effort: ellipses are almost smooth , planned and you draw through them several times. Everything’s in place.

5• !!! Your ellipses in plane exercise could use some improvement.

There are several things I think you need to work on:

• Smooth ellipses : your ellipses are not confident enough instead they are wobbly. Seems to me you drew them too slowly worrying about accuracy ( that they touch all four sides) which is wrong.

Your first priority is a smooth, confident ellipse.

• Deformed ellipse: Your ellipses seem to be deformed. You change the shape of your ellipse to fit your plane.

You could just change the orientation of ellipse to the fit the plane.

Be sure to revisit this exercise during warm ups.

6• Your funnels exercise is a little better: the ellipses are smoother (can still use some improvement) and most of them align to the minor axis (some don’t). Good job!

7• Your plotted perspective exercise is great so not much to critique there!

8•!!!!! Your rough perspective exercise needs to be improved:

•Most of your horizontal lines are not parallel and vertical are not perpendicular to normal (which they should be)

• Your lines do improve in converging to the vp on the second page but the last section seems way off. I’m assuming it was done next day.

9•!!! Your rotated boxes exercise is mostly decent: you rotate the boxes nicely but the lines are not confident and smooth. Also the back faces are little off and don’t seem to be rotated. They should converge to the same vp points as the front faces.

But this exercise is supposed to be hard so no need to stress over it

But I do recommend you revisit this exercise in your warm ups..

10•In organic perspective you rotate the boxes nicely and they do seem to be coming out from a distance but Again the lines are wobbly and not smooth enough.

I think the main thing you need to work is drawing a smooth, confident line/ellipse:

I think you draw your lines/ellipses too slow and carefully thinking you might mess them up.

What you need to do is spend some extra time ghosting and then draw a confident line/ellipse from your shoulder without worrying about end result.

Speeding up might help.

Remember accuracy comes with practise so don’t worry about it if you can’t nail a smooth, confident line ellipse.

Mrdrawbox talks about a lot.

Revisit this page linked below on how to draw your lines

All in all, I think you are clear to proceed to the 250 box challenge.

But make sure to do warmups during your 250 box challenge while reviewing your critique!

You can reply here if you have any questions or thoughts.

Keep up the good work and good luck!

Next Steps:

I am marking this lesson as complete so feel free to proceed to 259 boxes!!

Thank you a lot!! I'm definitely going to practice confident lines some more! I noticed myself that they are still not confidence enough, so they will definitely come back in my warm ups.

Glad to hear that!

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
