Hi again ACHERONSIS

Phobic here again. thanks for taking the time to complete the assigned revisions. the lines still look a bit wobbly however they do look much better compared to your original submission. i implore you to continue the practice with your lines and boxes and to perhaps take a look at some of my pointers for the other sections.

with all that said and done im going to mark this as complete so get ready for some 250 boxes well done!

Next Steps:

250 Box challenge next!

Hi ACHERONSIS my name is Phobic and i will be your critiquer today. this is my second critique with my first not having quite been evaluated yet so please bare with me if i make any mistakes haha. to start off i will break this critique into 3 sections LINES, ELIPSES and BOXES where i will go into the good, the not so good, and next steps. without further adieu lets get into things.

LINE SECTION:

Super Imposed lines:

from what i can see the lines look very confident with minimal wobbling, i also appreciate the extra attempts at more curved lines these generally look quite good with no serious issues from what i can see.

Ghosted Lines:

Looking at your ghosted lines they have been drawn quite confidently which is super good. i will note that the accuracy is a little off and there is a small amount of wobbling in your lines but this is something that can be worked out in warm up exercises.

Ghosted Planes:

As you did not attatch an image of this in your submission i am going to look at your ghosted elipses in planes page as i am assuming you re-used the same planes for this exercise. i am noticing your lines stop short of your plotted points and there is a bit of wobbling. i would advise usage of more confident stokes to minimize wobbling as it is better to overshoot slightly than to undershoot as shown here. but regardless the planes look good and we will come back to this in the elipses section.

ELIPSES SECTION:

Table of Elipses:

Looking at this exercise it is clear to me that you have made an effort to ghost and draw through your elipses twice. it is also clear that you have taken effort to ensure your elipses are touching when attempting to connect them and that they are more or less aligned on the minor axis. as for critique i think there are some issues with aligning your elipses so that they are touching the top and bottom of the rows but that is something that can be worked on in warm ups moving forward.

Ghosted Elipses in Planes:

As we have already discussed the planes i wont re-tread old ground. similarly to the table of elipses the elipses look quite good and they are confidently drawn. my only advice is to work on accuracy when drawing them in planes to ensure they are the correct size and to also make sure you are rotating your page whilst doing so but generally quite decent.

Funnels:

For the funnels you have drawn the elipses quite neatly although a couple of them still poke out of the funnels but this is quite ok as this can be ironed out with practice. my main critique for this exercise is your elipses in some of the funnels are not lined up evenly on the minor axis and this is something you will want to watch out for as some elipses are not quite in the center of the funnels. that being said this a fairly decent first attempt well done.

BOXES SECTION (THE FINAL BOSS OF LESSON 1)

Plotted perspective:

The boxes appear to line up well with the Vanishing point and look quite neat so no issues here.

Rough Perspective:

So for the boxes they line up fairly neatly to the vanishing point with a little bit of diverging lines but this can be cleaned up in the 250 box challenge. however the lines appear to be quite wobbly which indicates you may have had a bit of difficulty or went quite fast when doing these boxes.

Rotated Boxes:

An admirable first attempt for quite a tricky challenge. as previosly stated your boxes are quite wobbly which is a bit of a concern and the size and gap between each box is quite inconsistent. that being said the rotation on your box is a pretty good start. it could potentially rotate to the sides a bit further but over good job. (here is a bonus resource to look at for when re-attempting the task should you choose to https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/368870697742630912/715669112222908466/zfr3o7xneog31.png)

Organic Perspective (WOO! The last Task)

To avoid repeating myself too much the lines on the boxes are a little bit wobly but other than that the boxes look good as the perspective clearly shows them going from smaller to larger. i would comment on your construction of the boxes as some of them are a bit distorted but this can be ironed out in 250 boxes. i would also say that you should be a bit careful with some of your boxes as a couple of them were floating outside of the line but thats not very important. anyhow onto closing thoughts.

Closing thoughts.

For a first attempt at lesson 1 this is quite good there were some issues with your lines and boxes and a bit of general accuracy but this can be ironed out in warm ups. however before i mark this as complete i noticed that some of your boxes and lines were quite wobbly so to that end to make sure you are 100% super confident with drawing boxes and lines i would like to request 1 page of either ghosted planes or two panels of rough perspective (or 2/3 of a page)

Only a little bit more to go you can do it!

Next Steps:

1 page of either ghosted planes or two panels of rough perspective (or 2/3 of a page)

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Thank you for the critique.

I felt like I didn't quite have the shoulder pivoting correctly until pretty late through lesson one, but I now feel confident that I got it. Now I'm eager to start my journey along the boxy road ahead.

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
